HOW A TRAINING NIGHTMARE WAS SILENCED
erful chiropractic treatment can be, and of how super-powerful trigger point
therapy and chiropractic can be.
18.112 ere is considerable overlap between trigger point therapy and chiropractic,
with the former considered as a “nonforce” technique. To quote Cohen
and Schneider¹:
Within the chiropractic profession, there has been some discussion about the
role of soft tissue and reflex techniques, or the so-called “nonforce” methods…
Many chiropractors, including ourselves, were only taught trusting-type manipulations
in chiropractic school, where the emphasis was on moving bones…
Although chiropractic has traditionally favored osseous manipulations as the
mainstay of chiropractic treatment, many nonforce methods have become
widely used in the profession…
Trigger point techniques are another means by which to restore joint mobility
by removing the restrictive force of taut skeletal muscle. Because trigger points
are sources of nerve irritation that disrupt the normal function of the spinal
cord, their treatment fulfills the traditional view of chiropractic treatment as
to use the skill in each patient’s case, the patients are going to be dependent
on the chiropractor for treatment. is would be prohibitively expensive
for most people. If it was not for Prudden’s book I would never have got to
know about trigger point therapy and how to practice it myself.
needs to be done, is done.
Training while you recover from injury
18.114 While you are following the appropriate therapy program it is very rare that
some serious training cannot be pursued as well. Find those exercises and
body parts that are not bothered by injury, and keep training hard there. In
