Training Information<br />

is is an important supplementary chapter for the revised edition of BEYOND<br />

BRAWN. It contains information not discussed in detail in the initial edition. e<br />

information comes from a three-part series of articles published in HARDGAINER<br />

issues 72, 73 and 74, revised for use in this book.<br />

21.1 e ideas in this chapter are strictly for trainees who are already converted<br />

to the merits of abbreviated training, and who are experienced in applying it<br />

and finding out how their bodies respond to it. Considering bodybuilders<br />

and strength trainees in general, most of them need to reduce their training<br />

volume and frequency. But of those who have followed abbreviated programs<br />

for a good while, some may benefit from prudently increasing their training<br />

frequency and volume as described in this chapter, but while still staying in the<br />

scope of abbreviated training.<br />

21.2 is book has already provided different interpretations of abbreviated<br />

training. is chapter provides additional ideas, to help you find what works<br />

best for you, or at least what works well.<br />

21.3 If your sleeping and nutritional habits are in a mess, no amount of experimenting<br />

with exercise program design will make much difference. I am<br />

taking it as a given that the major components of recovery are in excellent<br />

order.<br />

21.4 Some trainees and trainers are adamant about the need to train each exercise,<br />

or at least most of them, every 4–5 days, and report examples of folk<br />

who detrain if they work the exercises on a lesser frequency. en there are<br />
