ropractor I could employ, and get a thorough understanding of his or her
physical structure and biomechanics, especially as it influences training.
16.88 I urge you to locate a competent chiropractor, especially one specializing in
sports injuries. Some experienced and well-trained osteopaths and physiotherapists
can also provide excellent service. Do not wait until you get an
injury before you seek a chiropractor’s services.
16.89 Of course, a competent chiropractor can greatly speed up recovery time,
and should be used if you get injured. Skilled chiropractic adjustment may
make you believe in miracles. But it is far better to know your body so well
that you are unlikely to get an injury in the first place. And even if you do
not have an injury, a checkup by a skilled chiropractor every few months can
help to keep your body free of injuries. Some chiropractors, however, urge
an excessive number of treatment sessions and checkups, and tarnish the
reputation of chiropractic.
16.90 A UK-trained osteopath is much more similar to a chiropractor than is a UStrained
more uniform throughout the world than is the training of an osteopath.
is is not to imply that a US-trained osteopath is not a highly skilled specialist.
It is just that osteopaths in different parts of the world can have significant
differences in the techniques they use.
16.91 In addition, consult a foot specialist such as a podiatrist. Foot problems such
as flat feet or bunions can seriously affect squatting and deadlifting form. A
foot specialist may be able to help you reduce if not eliminate the negative
impact of a foot problem on your exercise form.
Symptoms to respond to
16.92 If you experience one or more of the following symptoms, immediately seek
the attention of a chiropractor or other qualified specialist.
a. Pins and needles in one or both legs or arms
b. Numbness in one or both legs or arms
c. Pain that goes down the back of a leg along the path of the sciatic nerve
(sciatica)
