Credits for service and seniority shall accumulate for a period <strong>of</strong> up to thirty-­‐five (35)<br />

weeks after the parental leave began, if the employee also took pregnancy leave, and<br />

thirty-­‐seven (37) weeks after the parental leave began otherwise, while the employee is<br />

For regular full-­‐time employees, the Employer will continue to pay its share <strong>of</strong> the<br />

premiums <strong>of</strong> the subsidized employees benefits, including pension, in which the<br />

employee is participating for a period <strong>of</strong> up to thirty-­‐five (35) weeks after the parental<br />

leave began, if the employee also took pregnancy leave, and thirty-­‐seven (37) weeks<br />

after the parental leave began otherwise, while the employee is on parental leave. For<br />

regular part-­‐time employees, the Employer will continue to pay the percentage in lieu <strong>of</strong><br />

benefits and its share <strong>of</strong> the pension contribution (if applicable) for a period <strong>of</strong> up to ten<br />

(10) weeks while the employee is on parental leave. The Employer will register these<br />

benefits with the Unemployment Benefit Plan.<br />

18.08 Education Leave<br />

If required by the Employer, an employee shall be entitled to leave <strong>of</strong> absence with pay and with<br />

full credit for service and seniority and benefits to take courses and to write examinations to<br />

upgrade his or her employment qualifications. Where the employees are required by the<br />

Employer to take courses to upgrade or acquire new employment qualifications, the Employer<br />

shall pay the full cost associated with the courses.<br />

Subject to operational requirements, the Employer will make every reasonable effort to grant<br />

<br />

up-­‐grading course or seminar related to employment with the Rainy River District Social Services<br />

Administration Board.<br />

Subject to operational requirements, the Employer will make every reasonable effort to grant<br />

requests for an employee to take an educational leave without pay and without loss <strong>of</strong> seniority<br />

<strong>of</strong> up to twelve (12) months for training related to the <br />

River District Social Services Administration Board.<br />

18.09 Pre-­‐paid Leave Plan<br />

The Employer agrees to introduce a pre-­‐paid leave program, funded solely by the employee<br />

subject to the following terms and conditions:<br />

(a) The plan is available to employees wishing to spread four (4) salary over a five (5)<br />

year period, in accordance with Part LXVII <strong>of</strong> the Income Tax Regulations, Section 6801,<br />

to enable them to take one (1) year leave <strong>of</strong> absence following the four (4) years <strong>of</strong><br />

salary deferral.<br />
