If an employee is required to work overtime for a period <strong>of</strong> fifteen (15) minutes or less,<br />

the provision <strong>of</strong> Clause 22.02 (a) shall not apply. If an employee is required to work<br />

overtime for a period <strong>of</strong> sixteen (16) minutes or more, then overtime payment shall<br />

apply on all time worked in excess <strong>of</strong> the normal daily hours <strong>of</strong> work.<br />

When an employee is called in and continues to work up to and on his regular shift,<br />

compensation will be at the rate <strong>of</strong> one and one-­‐half (1<br />

straight time hourly rate <strong>of</strong> pay for the time worked immediately prior to the regular<br />

shift only, to obviate overlapping.<br />

When an employee performs authorized overtime work <strong>of</strong> at least three (3) hours<br />

duration, the Employer will schedule a rest period <strong>of</strong> fifteen (15) minutes duration,<br />

subject to call demands.<br />

22.03 Overtime Premium<br />

The overtime rate shall be time and one-­‐half (1-­‐time hourly rate.<br />

Where an employee is required to work additional overtime contiguous to an overtime shift<br />

within a twenty-­‐four (24) hour period, the employee will be compensated at the rate <strong>of</strong> double<br />

time his or her straight-­‐time hourly rate for all additional contiguous overtime hours worked.<br />

22.04 No Pyramiding<br />

Overtime premium will not be duplicated nor pyramided nor shall other premiums be duplicated<br />

nor pyramided nor shall the same hours worked be counted as part <strong>of</strong> the normal work week<br />

and also as hours for which the overtime premium is paid.<br />

22.05 Overtime Approval<br />

The Employer will not be required to incur overtime until it has exhausted all regular<br />

part-­‐time and casual paramedics who have not reached their maximum hours over the<br />

scheduling period.<br />

All overtime will be <strong>of</strong>fered to full-­‐time employees first. If no full-­‐time employees accept<br />

the overtime, the permanent Part-­‐time employees will then be <strong>of</strong>fered the overtime. If<br />

no permanent part-­‐time employees accept this overtime, the shift will then be <strong>of</strong>fered<br />

to the casual employees. All overtime shifts will be <strong>of</strong>fered on a rotational basis, in each<br />

category.<br />
