4. Start/end dates
Within the “Costing and NPV Assumptions”
section of the Input worksheet are start and
end dates, which will, in most cases, be “0”
and “0” respectively. This illustrates capital
investments that are made only once. However,
it may be necessary in some developments
to retrofit or add interventions after the initial
construction is complete. An example of this
may be the post-project inclusion of solar
water heaters. If interventions have a limited
life cycle (for example, one could argue that
the life cycle of SABS approved solar water
heaters is generally about 20 years) , it also
becomes necessary to include replacement
costs in the calculations by adding the cost
again at the end of the life cycle (for example
year 20 for solar water heaters).
