synchronized with adjacent, higher <strong>and</strong> lower ADA <strong>operations</strong> within his AO.<br />

The EAC ADA brigade comm<strong>and</strong>er may also function as the AMDCOORD.<br />

5-<strong>44</strong>. EAC brigades will deploy early into the theater to protect APODs,<br />

SPODs, early arriving forces <strong>and</strong> critical supplies. As entry forces move into<br />

tactical assembly areas (TAA) for expansion <strong>operations</strong>, ADA forces<br />

maneuver <strong>and</strong> reposition to provide optimized forces protection. As the<br />

lodgment is exp<strong>and</strong>ed ADA forces conduct combat <strong>operations</strong> to protect<br />

critical political, communications, transportation, <strong>and</strong> military forces. As<br />

deployment <strong>operations</strong> conclude, EAC ADA brigades <strong>and</strong> multinational forces<br />

will form a cohesive integrated <strong>defense</strong> from which to conduct military<br />

<strong>operations</strong>.<br />

5-45. Units conducting active <strong>defense</strong> at theater level normally consist of one<br />

or more EAC ADA brigades that provides comm<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> control over assigned<br />

forces. The brigade comm<strong>and</strong>er task organizes active <strong>defense</strong> forces to protect<br />

selected priority assets, designated by the AAMDC comm<strong>and</strong>er, from the<br />

DAL.<br />

ROLE OF THE CORP ADA BRIGADE<br />

5-46. The Corps ADA brigade comm<strong>and</strong>er is the corps <strong>air</strong> <strong>defense</strong> officer <strong>and</strong><br />

serves as the corps comm<strong>and</strong>er’s <strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>missile</strong> <strong>defense</strong> coordinator<br />

(AMDCOORD). Since the corps can operate at the strategic, operational <strong>and</strong><br />

tactical levels of war, the brigade comm<strong>and</strong>er has a unique role in the<br />

planning of <strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>missile</strong> <strong>defense</strong> <strong>operations</strong>. His responsibilities include<br />

the following:<br />

• Ensuring corps counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD requirements are integrated into<br />

theater counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD plans.<br />

• Coordinating the overall counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD planning with the corps<br />

higher headquarters (ARFOR), adjacent corps, subordinate elements<br />

within the corps <strong>and</strong> with EAC brigades <strong>and</strong> the AAMDC as<br />

appropriate.<br />

• Developing <strong>and</strong> recommending to the corps comm<strong>and</strong>er counter<strong>air</strong><br />

<strong>and</strong> TMD priorities in conjunction with the G3 plans <strong>and</strong> other corps<br />

staff elements.<br />

• Preparing the <strong>air</strong> <strong>defense</strong> estimate <strong>and</strong> annex for corps plans <strong>and</strong><br />

orders.<br />

• Advising the corps comm<strong>and</strong>er on overall counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD<br />

integration, synchronization, <strong>and</strong> employment to include monitoring<br />

organic <strong>and</strong> attached unit stat<strong>us</strong> <strong>and</strong> locations down to battery level,<br />

<strong>and</strong> divisional, regimental, separate ADA brigade stat<strong>us</strong> down to<br />

battery level. This also includes nominating appropriate targets for<br />

attack <strong>operations</strong> as part of the TMD fight.<br />

• Informing the corps comm<strong>and</strong>er of the counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD rules of<br />

engagement <strong>and</strong> procedures applicable to counter<strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> TMD assets<br />

operating within the corps AO.<br />

• Assessing the <strong>air</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>missile</strong> threat, in concert with the corps G2,<br />

<strong>and</strong> assisting the G2 in preparation of the integrated IPB.<br />

• Making recommendation to the corps comm<strong>and</strong>er on reconstitution or<br />

reorganization of ADA soldiers <strong>and</strong> equipment within the corps.<br />
