TOWN OF VERNON<br />
ZONING REGULATIONS<br />
Comparability shall include such factors as the size <strong>of</strong> the alternative<br />
dwelling unit, its rent, distance to public transportation, other amenities such<br />
as shopping areas, distance from the relocation tenant’s place <strong>of</strong><br />
employment, and whether the alternative dwelling unit is located in the<br />
same neighborhood as the conversion building.<br />
2.44 Emergency Shelter for the Homeless: A structure or portion <strong>of</strong> a structure intended<br />
to provide temporary shelter to people on an emergency basis only.<br />
2.45 Erosion: The detachment and movement <strong>of</strong> soil or rock fragments by water, wind, ice<br />
or gravity.<br />
2.46 Fallout Shelter: A structure or portion <strong>of</strong> a structure intended to provide protection to<br />
human life during periods <strong>of</strong> danger from nuclear fallout, air raids, storms or other<br />
emergencies.<br />
2.47 Family: Any number <strong>of</strong> individuals related by blood, marriage or adoption, living<br />
together as a single household unit, provided that a group <strong>of</strong> not more than seven (7)<br />
persons keeping house together but not necessarily related by blood or marriage or<br />
adoption may be considered a family.<br />
2.48 Floor Area: The total area <strong>of</strong> all floors as compiled by measuring the outside<br />
horizontal dimensions <strong>of</strong> each floor. The required floor area shall not include the<br />
basement, attic, open or screened porch, breezeway or garage.<br />
2.49 Frontage: The distance measured along a public street right-<strong>of</strong>-way between side lot<br />
lines or private streets within a mobile home park.<br />
2.50 Fur-bearing Animals: Mammals that bear hairy coats or pelts <strong>of</strong> a commercially<br />
desired quality including, but not limited to; rabbits, foxes, mink, muskrats, raccoon, and<br />
beaver.<br />
2.51 Garden Center: An establishment where horticultural products are sold for both indoor<br />
and outdoor use, including related dry goods to beautify the home or landscape, but not<br />
including an establishment where internal combustion wheeled equipment is sold<br />
and/or serviced.<br />
2.52 Grading: Any excavating, grubbing, filling (including hydraulic fill) or stockpiling <strong>of</strong><br />
earth materials or any combination there<strong>of</strong>, including the land in its excavated or filled<br />
condition.<br />
2.53 Greenhouse: An enclosure used for the cultivation or protection <strong>of</strong> plants.<br />
