ZONING REGULATIONS<br />

21.5.3.2 Materials shall be selected for suitability to the type <strong>of</strong> building<br />

and the design in which they are used; and<br />

21.5.3.3 Materials shall be <strong>of</strong> durable quality.<br />

21.5.4 Building components, such as windows, doors, eaves, and parapets, shall<br />

have good proportion and relationships to one another.<br />

21.5.5 Colors shall be harmonious.<br />

21.5.6 Mechanical equipment or other utility hardware on ro<strong>of</strong>, ground, or<br />

buildings shall be screened from public view with materials harmonious<br />

with the building or they shall be located as not to be visible from any<br />

public ways.<br />

21.5.7 Refuse and waste removal areas, service yards, storage yards, and<br />

exterior work areas shall be screened from view <strong>of</strong> public ways.<br />

21.5.8 Monotony <strong>of</strong> design in single or multiple building projects is discouraged.<br />

Variation <strong>of</strong> detail, form, and setting shall be used to provide visual interest.<br />

21.5.9 Prototype structures (the first new structure in an area which has been<br />

designed for a particular character) shall reflect the desired character <strong>of</strong> the<br />

entire area.<br />

21.6 Lighting, Street Hardware and Miscellaneous Structures<br />

21.7 Signs<br />

21.6.1 Exterior lighting standards and building fixtures shall be <strong>of</strong> a design and<br />

size compatible with the building and adjacent areas. Lighting shall be<br />

restrained in design and excessive brightness avoided.<br />

21.6.2 Miscellaneous structures and street hardware shall be designed to be part<br />

<strong>of</strong> the architectural concept <strong>of</strong> design and landscape. Materials shall be<br />

compatible with buildings, scale shall be appropriate, colors shall be in<br />

harmony with buildings and surroundings, and proportions shall be<br />

attractive.<br />

21.7.1 Every sign shall have appropriate scale and proportion in its design and in<br />

its visual relationship to buildings and surroundings.<br />

21.7.2 Every sign shall be designed as an integral architectural element <strong>of</strong> the<br />

building and site to which it principally relates.<br />
