Vehicle Towing Instructions<br />

2. Apply the vehicle spring or parking brakes<br />

by manually releasing each spring that was<br />

compressed before begin to transport. See<br />

the vehicle manufacturer’s instructions.<br />

3. Disconnect the auxiliary air supply, if used,<br />

from the brake system of the vehicle that was<br />

transported. Connect the vehicle’s air supply<br />

to the brake system.<br />

4. Remove the covers from the hubs.<br />

NOTE:<br />

Install the axle shaft(s) indicated in Table<br />

AG. These Axle shafts have a double row of<br />

splines that engage with the splines of the<br />

side gear and shift collar in the differential<br />

case. FIGURE 11.3.<br />

5. Install the gasket, if used, and axle shaft into<br />

the axle housing and differential in the same<br />

location. The gasket and flange of the axle<br />

shaft must be flat against the hub. Rotate the<br />

axle shaft or the driveline as necessary to<br />

align the splines and the holes in the flange<br />

with the studs in the hub. Figure 11.1.<br />

6. Install the conical washers, if used, over each<br />

stud and into the tapered holes of the flange.<br />

7. Install the washers and capscrews or stud<br />

nuts. Determine the size of the fasteners and<br />

tighten the capscrews or nuts to the corresponding<br />

torque value shown in Table AH.<br />
