7. Use an appropriate lifting device to remove the<br />

main differential case and ring gear assembly<br />

from the cage of differential. Figure 3.45.<br />

NOTE:<br />

If you replace either the bearing cup or the<br />

cone, replace both parts in a fully-matched<br />

set from the same manufacturer. The bearing<br />

cones are not interchangeable.<br />

8. If the bearing cones on the main differential<br />

case need to be replaced, use a bearing extractor<br />

to remove the cones. Figure 3.46.<br />

1. Use a punch and hammer to mark the case<br />

halves. The marks will help you correctly<br />

align the case halves during assembly. Figure<br />

3.47.<br />

2. Remove the capscrews and washers that<br />

fasten the halves of the main differential together.<br />

3.Remove the u-joint pinions, thrust washers<br />

and side gears from the separated case assembly.<br />
