10. Apply a 0.25 inch (6 mm) bead of Loctite®<br />
5699 silicone gasket material to the housing<br />
face. Do not use ThreeBond1216E silicone<br />
products. Figure 4.12.<br />

11. Install two long studs in the differential to<br />
guide the differential into the housing.<br />
12. Immediately install the differential into the<br />
housing to compress the liquid gasket<br />
evenly between the differential faces and<br />
the housing.<br />

13. Apply a 0.125-inch (3 mm) bead of Loctite®<br />
242 threadlocker around the capscrew<br />
threads approximately 0.25-inch (6 mm)<br />
from the end. Apply a 0.125 inch (3 mm)<br />
bead of Loctite® 242threadlocker across<br />
the length of the threads. Figure 4.13.<br />

Prepare Parts for Reassembly<br />

14. Install the capscrews. Use a crossing pattern<br />
to tighten the capscrews evenly. The<br />
capscrews must be tightened within10<br />
minutes of initial application of Loctite®<br />
242 threadlocker.<br />
• Tighten the 1/2-inch capscrews to 140 lb-ft<br />
(190 N m).<br />
• Tighten the 5/8-inch capscrews to 225 lb-ft<br />
(306 N m).<br />
15. Wait a minimum of 60 minutes before filling<br />
the assembly with lubricant. See Section<br />
7.<br />
Fork and General U-joint Reassembly<br />
Install the fork general u-joint capscrews by<br />
hand after seating the U-joint. Tighten the capscrews<br />
according to the manufacturer’s torque<br />
specifications.<br />
