8. Unlock or disengage the DCDL by removing<br />
the manual engaging capscrew from the shift<br />
assembly.<br />
9. Install the manual engaging capscrew<br />
into the storage hole. The storage hole of<br />
threaded shift assemblies is located in the<br />
shift tower of the differential next to the cylinder.<br />
Tighten the capscrew to 15-25 lb-ft<br />
(20-35 N m). Figure11.2.<br />
10. Connect the air hose to the shift cylinder. Tighten<br />
the air hose to 22-30 lb-ft (30-40 Nm).<br />
11. Install the remaining axle shaft into the axle<br />
housing and differential<br />
12. Check the lubricant level in the axles and<br />
hubs where the axle shafts were removed.<br />
Add the correct type and amount of lubricant<br />
if necessary. See the Section 7.<br />

Before Towing or Drive-Away<br />
1. Park the vehicle on a level surface. Block the<br />
wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling.<br />
2. Apply the parking brake using the switch inside<br />
the cab of the vehicle.<br />
3. Shift the transmission into neutral and start<br />
the vehicle’s engine.<br />
4. Shift the DCDL to the unlocked or disengaged<br />
position using the switch inside the cab of the<br />
vehicle. The indicator light in the cab will go<br />
off.<br />
5. Stop the engine.<br />
NOTE:<br />
Remove in this point, only axle shaft (s) show<br />
(s) in table AI, that will remain on the road when<br />
the vehicle is transported.<br />
6. Remove the stud nuts or capscrews and the<br />
washers from the flange of the axle shaf. FIG-<br />

7. Loosen conical washers , from the flange of<br />
the axle shaf,if used. Figure 11.4. See the<br />
Section 3.<br />
8. Identify each axle shaft to be removed from<br />
the axle assembly so they can be installed<br />
in the same location after transporting or repair<br />
is completed.<br />
9. Remove the conical washer, gasket, IF<br />
used, and axle shaft Figure 11.4.<br />
10.Remove the manual engaging capscrew<br />
from the storage hole. The storage hole of<br />
threaded shift assemblies is located in the<br />
shift tower of the differential, next to the cylinder.<br />
