Receivables Reduction<br />
Beginning July 1, 1999, the Department of Revenue Compliance Division<br />
established a goal to reduce the outstanding tax dollar liabilities by 2.5% per<br />
fiscal year <strong>for</strong> the next four years. Compliance unveiled a new purpose<br />
statement, Maximize Collections-Minimize Losses, to better identify the purpose<br />
of the division. The new focus concentrates ef<strong>for</strong>ts on maximizing collections by<br />
prioritizing collection ef<strong>for</strong>ts on higher liability accounts. Education ef<strong>for</strong>ts<br />
minimize losses by working on voluntary compliance of the state’s tax laws.<br />
<strong>Results</strong><br />
★ Receivables reduced in the first fiscal year by 12%.<br />
★ New purpose statement provides a clearly stated priority allowing employees<br />
to focus their work ef<strong>for</strong>ts to meet the Receivables Reduction goal.<br />
★ Transferred lower liability accounts to the Central Collection Unit, allowing<br />
Revenue Agents in the Field Offices to concentrate ef<strong>for</strong>ts on higher liability<br />
accounts.<br />
