This homage paid to Tao, thisextolling of its Virtue, is due to no command, but isalways spontaneous. Thus it is that Tao, engendering all things, nourishesthem, develops them, and fosters them; perfects them, ripens them, tends them, and protects them.Production without possession, action without selfassertion, development without domination this is itsmysterious operation. The World has a First Cause, which may be regarded asthe Mother of the World.
