In addition, sponsored students may havespecial attendance requirements.Graduation Grade Point Average – A minimumGraduation Grade Point Average (GGPA) of 2.00 on the 4.00scale is required.Minimum Course Grade – Some programs may requirethe achievement of a specific grade in a course for graduationpurposes. Excellent communication, organizational, managementand golf-playing skills are critical for success as a headgolf professional.Structured around the golf season, PGM classes begin inlate September and end in March. Classes, group work andcase studies focus on general management, organizationalbehaviour, marketing, sales techniques, accounting, finance,human resources management and business computerapplications. Industry-specific courses focus on pro-shop,backshop and practice facility operations, golf equipment,golf carts, programs and leagues, rules of golf, food andbeverage operations and golf course maintenance.Career potentialGraduates of the Professional Golf Management programtypically work as assistant professionals or teachingprofessionals as they complete the remaining requirementsfor Class “A” membership status within the CanadianProfessional Golfers’ Association (CPGA). Students are advised to consult aprogram advisor for the Commerce program for specificadmission requirements.External TransferAll courses completed for the Management StudiesProfessional Golf Management Major diploma programare credit courses and may be transferable individuallytoward further study at other Alberta institutions. Studentspresenting a completed diploma in this program mayreceive up to 60 credits to the Post-Diploma Bachelor ofManagement program at the University of Lethbridge. Forcurrent, detailed information on individual course anddiploma transferability, refer to the Online Alberta TransferGuide (www.transferalberta.ca) or contact the receivinginstitution directly.This program is accredited by the Canadian ProfessionalGolfers’ Association (CPGA). The completion of this diplomaand the completion of the one-year Professional GolfManagement Certificate of Achievement form a three-yearpackage that meets the CPGA’s education and accreditationprocess.
