Bachelor of Science in Nursing • Bachelor of Science in Nursing • Bachelor of Science in Nursing • Bachelor of Science in NursingTERM IINURS 479 Nursing Practice: Consolidation 5 C-NURS 489 Nursing Practice: Preceptorship 9 C-*Minimum Grade to GraduateThe minimum passing grade for a course at MacEwanUniversity is a D unless otherwise noted next to theappropriate course in the program of study.institutional graduation regulationsMacEwan University has institutional graduation regulationsfor Ministry approved programs.Institutional regulations are those that each studentmust fulfil in order to be eligible to receive a MacEwanUniversity credential.Details are available in the university’s Graduation PolicyC2100 and other relevant policies as noted below.Academic Residency – A student must complete atleast 50 per cent of courses through MacEwan University.Challenge examinations, transfer credit and other specialassessments (for example, prior learning and recognition) arenot included in the 50 per cent (C1015 Academic Residency).Academic Standing – A student must obtain a minimum2.00 Academic Standing GPA to be considered in GoodStanding (C2070 Academic Standing).Attendance – A student must comply with any courseor program attendance and punctuality requirements asnoted on course outlines or in program handbooks (C2050Attendance). In addition, sponsored students may havespecial attendance requirements.Graduation Grade Point Average – A minimumGraduation Grade Point Average (GGPA) of 2.00 on the 4.00scale is required.Minimum Course Grade – Some programs may requirethe achievement of a specific grade in a course for graduationpurposes. For specific course grade requirements, please referto your Program of Study.Minimum Transfer Grade – A minimum course transfergrade of D is required except when a higher grade is specifiedas a program requirement for graduation – see “MinimumCourse Grade” (C2030 Inter-Institutional Transferability).Non-duplicative Coursework – Each course completed forcredit or for which transfer credit is granted may be used onlyonce for credit towards fulfilling any program requirement.Prerequisites/Co-requisites – Each student is responsiblefor fulfilling each course prerequisite or co-requisite aslisted in the course description (E3101 Student Rights andResponsibilities).Program Time Limits – A student in Bachelor of Sciencein Nursing has six years from the first day of the term ofacceptance to complete all requirements to be eligible for acredential (C2075 Program Time Limits).Repeating Credit Courses (Policy is under review andsubject to change) – A student in a credit course shallbe allowed to repeat any course one additional time,regardless of whether the initial registration resulted in afailing or passing grade (C1035 Repeating Credit Courses).Course Withdrawals (W) and Audits (AU) do not count ascourse attempts.Required English Course – A student in a Ministryapproved program shall take an English course as specified inthe Program of Study (C1030 Required English Course).degree regulationsStudents are strongly encouraged to seek advice from thefaculty advisors about program planning, whether forcompleting degree requirements at MacEwan University orfor transfer to another post-secondary institution.Elective Requirements – The Open Elective (100 to 400level) and Senior Elective (200 to 400 level) are baccalaureatecourses excluding subject code NURS that extend knowledgewithin an area of interest. The Open Elective may also bechosen to satisfy a prerequisite requirement for a seniorelective. The Senior Nursing Elective is a 300 or 400 levelbaccalaureate NURS course that extends nursing knowledgein an area of interest.Progression of Studies – Students are responsible forensuring they meet the prerequisite and/or co requisiterequirements as noted on program courses. Courseregistration is required for attendance in all program courses.Professional Code of Conduct – Students must adhereto the Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics, theprofessional code of conduct and the confidentiality agreementssigned with MacEwan University and clinical placement/other agencies.Regulations Governing Clinical Courses – Students mustachieve satisfactory performance in all clinical courses inaccordance with the course/clinical criteria and outcomes.Clinical course hours may include days, evenings, nights andweekends. Students are to arrange their own transportation forrequired program activities and any costs incurred for meals,travel and accommodation are the student’s responsibility.Students will require daily access to a vehicle for any practiceexperience not accessible through public transportation.Required nursing practice placements will generally be within a150 kilometre radius of the program site.Students cannot be in attendance at clinical agencies asa MacEwan University nursing student except at times andlocations authorized by the clinical course instructor for thecourse in which the student is currently enrolled. Studentsmust comply with policy C2060 Work Integrated Learningregarding clinical and/or nursing practice placements.Security Clearance – A current, clear security clearance forworking with vulnerable populations is required for programadmission. This check must be completed no earlier thanfour months prior to the program start date and submittedno later than the academic document deadline. Having apardon in progress does not meet the admission requirementfor a clear security clearance.Students are responsible for obtaining security clearancechecks at intervals specified by clinical agencies and formaking these available, upon request, to their clinical agencyrepresentative. Students may also be required to obtain childwelfare checks for some clinical placements. Students mustbe able to satisfy agency requirements prior to the start ofclinical placements. Students whose security clearance statuschanges following program admission compromise theirability to complete the program requirements as they may bedenied required clinical placements and, therefore, be unableto meet graduation requirements.Program Standards – In accordance with MacEwanUniversity’s Admissions policy (C5010) students admittedto the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program are presumedto be capable of fulfilling the academic requirements oftheir program with, if applicable, provision of reasonableaccommodation. a student of the responsibility to develop and demonstratethe essential skills and competencies expected of all studentspursuing this program (Policy E3400, Students withDisabilities).Immunization Status – Program students may be requiredto care for patients/clients who have infectious diseases suchas Hepatitis B or other blood-borne pathogens. Studentsmust be able to meet agency requirements for immunizationsprior to the start of all clinical or practice placement courses.Current immunization against specified communicablediseases is required as a prerequisite for practice placementsand thus for continued enrolment in the program.N95 Mask – Program students must be fitted for an N95mask as a prerequisite for clinical experiences, and refittedin accordance with health agency requirements. It is theresponsibility of the student to meet the required timelinesfor mask fitting.Basic Life Support Certification – A current Health CareProvider Level C Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate isrequired prior to the start of all clinical placements.
