Bachelor of ArtsFaculty of Arts and Sciencewww.MacEwan.ca/BAMacEwan University’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) is designedto provide a liberal arts education that allows students toexplore a variety of academic disciplines and acquire a broadknowledge base that will prepare them for employmentor future post-secondary studies. The degree is intendedto provide students with breadth, depth and diversity inthe areas of humanities, social sciences, and natural andmathematical sciences. BA students study subjects in a botha major and minor discipline, and are required to be familiarwith the academic and faculty regulations and procedures aspublished herein.Bachelor of Arts (BA) and Bachelor of Arts (Honours)BAMajorBAMinor*BAHonoursAnthropology Business StudiesClassicsEconomics English History Philosophy Political Science Psychology Sociology * In addition to the minors listed above, students in the BAprogram are eligible to declare any minor offered by theBachelor of Science program (page 206) in the Faculty ofArts and Science.General Program InformationThe BA program requires students to complete 120 credits ofnon-duplicative coursework. This coursework consists of 36credits of core requirements in the following areas: analyticalstudies (six credits), humanities (six credits), literacy (12credits), sciences (six credits) and social sciences (six credits).Students are advised to complete their core requirements intheir first and second years of study. In addition, studentsmust complete coursework in a major subject area (42 creditsat the senior level), a minor subject area (18 credits at thesenior level) and options (24 credits).TRANSFERABILITYAll courses completed for the Bachelor of Arts degree arecredit courses and may be transferable individually towardfurther study at other Alberta institutions. For current,detailed information on individual course transferability, referto the Online Alberta Transfer Guide (www.transferalberta.ca)or contact the receiving institution directly.Bachelor of Arts students at MacEwan University havethe option of transferring coursework to another Canadianuniversity. Most post-secondary institutions allow the transferof a maximum of 60 credits at the baccalaureate level towardstheir program requirements. Students should research theprogram of study and transfer policies at the institution theywish to attend to ensure compliance with admission andgraduation requirements.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR THEBACHELOR OF ARTS PROGRAMCategories of AdmissionApplicants may be admitted to one of the following:Regular AdmissionTo be evaluated through the Office of the RegistrarApplicants must have a minimum overall average of65 per cent, with no course grade lower than 50 per cent, inthe following high school courses:1. ELA 30-12. 2. Group C course3.
