MGMT-117Investment Funds in Canada3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students acquire the knowledge and skills required to assist customersto make their investment choices and match their needs with productsavailable in the financial marketplace. Risk and return characteristics,consumer protection regulations, and customer service are addressedin relation to mutual funds, securities, and investment products. Uponsuccessful completion of the course and the Institute of CanadianBankers exams, students are eligible to obtain a Certificate from theInstitute of Canadian Bankers and be licensed to sell mutual fundsin Canada.MGMT-121Principles of Management3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students examine the theories and practice of the role of a managerin a Canadian organizational setting and within the global businessenvironment. Discussions and activities focus on the functions androles of management as they relate to both the organization’s specificresources and capabilities internally and forces and institutions outsidethe organization that potentially affect the organization’s performance.Students also develop and utilize problem-solving and decision-makingskills both individually and in small groups.MGMT-122Organizational Behaviour3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students examine the impact of individuals and groups onbehaviour within organizations. Students work individuallyand in groups to explore introductory theories and practice ofpersonality and perception, diversity, motivation, small groupdynamics, communication, change and leadership within theorganizational context.MGMT-123Thought Patterns for a Successful Career3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students study concepts from the fields of cognitive psychology andsocial learning theory of how the mind works and can be controlled tohelp individuals reach their full potential personally and professionally.Students develop innovative leadership qualities that overcomeresistance to change and help sustain energy and creativity. Participantslearn how to develop habits, attitudes, beliefs, and expectations thatcreate high self-esteem, increased self-efficacy, change negatives intopositives, failures into successes, and lead high performance lives .MGMT-126Introduction to Conflict Resolution and Mediation3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)This course is an introduction to the theory and practice of conflictresolution and mediation. Although this course has no specificprerequisites, it does demand work at a high level of complexity. Roleplays and in-class exercises are used to familiarize students with theapplication of the theoretical concepts.MGMT-127Strategies for Student Success3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Strategies for Student Success offers a study of the principles, techniquesand practical tools to achieve success in university and in life. Theseare skills, attitudes and behaviours that employers expect from theiremployees. Based on a profile of critical skills required in the workforce,this course focuses on learning, understanding and applying new waysto enhance academic success, develop personal management skillsand practice teamwork. Topics include: memory, test writing and studytechniques; communication skills, stress and time management, usingtechnology, critical thinking skills, emotional intelligence and otherlifelong learning skills.MGMT-131Marketing3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students examine basic decisions made by business in developing,distributing, promoting, and pricing of goods and services. Studentslearn to analyze buyer decision processes and to convert thisinformation into reasonable marketing strategies. Through readings andprojects, students acquire basic knowledge of the methods available forsolving marketing problems.MGMT-132Retail Merchandising3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students receive an introduction to key principles and practices inoperating a successful retail outlet. Emphasis is placed on the keymanagerial and policy issues involved in the design, implementationand assessment of the retail strategy. Students explore severalareas relating to the institution of retailing and elements of theretail environment.MGMT-141International Business3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)Students are introduced to the fundamental concepts, issues andpractices in international business. International trade theory; entryinto foreign markets; and political, economic, legal and culturaldifferences that influence business practices are discussed. Studentsacquire knowledge of the basic skills and attitudes required to becomea successful international business practitioner.MGMT-142International Marketing3 Credits (45:0:0 hours)This course provides a comprehensive overview of the way in whichconsumer and industrial goods and services are marketed at theinternational level. Marketing intelligence, product planning, exportpricing, promotion, distribution channels, and the adaptation of themarketing mix to foreign markets are analyzed. The student developsan international marketing plan by the end of the course. Prerequisites:MGMT 131.
