This additional payment will give thestudent full membership in the SA and access to selected SAservices.SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH CARE ANDDENTAL FEEA mandatory Supplemental Health Care and Dental Carefee is charged to eligible full-time on-campus credit programstudents as part of the registration process. (Refer to the<strong>Academic</strong> Regulations section of this calendar for theeligibility requirements or contact your plan administrator.)Student eligibility for health and dental plans is determinedand assessed in the fall term for coverage until December31 and again in the winter term for coverage until August31. Any student with proof of alternate coverage forsupplemental health care and/or dental care may opt outof these plans prior to the advertised deadline date bycontacting the plan administrator.Please note that the health plan is above and beyondyour provincial insurance plan, and the dental plan has alist of specified dentists. For more information about youreligibility, policy content, family add-on, opt out, currentnetwork dental list, etc., call the Student Benefits Plan Officeat 780-497-4675 or drop by your Students’ Association office.U-PASSThe Universal Transit Pass (U-Pass) is a mandatory feebasedservice for all full-time students (for post-secondarystudents registered in classes that total or exceed nine creditsper term, for ESL or preparation for university and collegestudents registered in classes that total or exceed nine creditsper term). The U-Pass gives all full-time MacEwan Universitystudents unlimited use of regular ETS, St. Albert andStrathcona bus and LRT service from September to April.At MacEwan University, the Students’ Associationadministers the U-Pass and will attach the U-Pass stickeron the MacEwan University IDs of full-time students fromlate August to late September for the fall term and fromDecember to January for the winter term. Each term requiresa new sticker. The U-Pass is valid from September 1 toDecember 31 for the fall term and January 1 to April 30 forthe winter term.For more information on the U-Pass, visitwww.MacEwan.ca/upass.GLOBAL EDUCATION FEEAll students who are considered full-time will be chargeda $3.50 per term (for fall and winter terms only) GlobalEducation Fee. This fee is allocated so that $1 goestoward providing funds to overseas educational projectsfor underprivileged schools and students and $2.50will be used to sponsor refugee students’ attendance atMacEwan University.STUDENT SUCCESS BURSARY FEEThe Student Success Bursary fee provides funds to theMacEwan Foundation. These funds are matched by theProvince of Alberta and a private donor and used to fundto bursaries at MacEwan University. Full-time studentspay $4.50 per term for Fall and Winter terms. This fee isset to expire in 2016. (This fee was approved by MacEwanUniversity student’s referendum in 2010.)For more information on student fees structuresvisit any SA office, the SAM Centre or the website atwww.MacEwan.ca/SA.INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY FEEThis fee was established to fund technology projectsthat specifically result in providing students with new orimproved technology services. All credit students will becharged $2 per credit per term (to a maximum of $30per term). For example, if you are registered in six credits,the fee would be $12. The fee will be assessed at thetime of registration. eCampusAlberta courses are exemptfrom this fee as there is a separate technology fee foreCampusAlberta courses.PAYING YOUR FEESTo ensure a smooth transition into post-secondary education,it is imperative you have your funds in place for tuition,special activities, health care, dental care and material feesprior to attending MacEwan University. Tuition and fees forall programs are due by the published deadline dates. If yourpayment or proof of sponsorship is not received on or beforethe published payment date, you may be withdrawn fromyour courses.All cheques, money orders, and drafts MUST have all of thefollowing imprints by the bank:• bank transit/swift number• bank account number• branch number• cheque, money order or draft number. Money orders,drafts and wire transfer examples can be found atwww.MacEwan.ca/FFI > Tuition and Fees > Makea Payment.Unacceptable method of payment and related documentsreceived will NOT be processed and will be returned.REFUNDS(Excerpt from Policy E2112)Refunds for tuition and fees will be actioned according to theguidelines as set out in Policy E2112 Refunds of Tuition andStudent Fees.Tuition and Special Material Fees RefundStudents are responsible for formally withdrawing fromcourses they no longer wish to attend according to deadlineand other information published by the Office of theRegistrar.For course withdrawals, the amount refunded is calculatedaccording to the scheduled refund category.
