Privacy Protection, and Disclosure Notifications • Privacy Protection, and Disclosure Notifications • Privacy Protection, and Disclosure Notifications• attendance at or participation in a public event or activityrelated to a public body, including a graduation ceremony,sporting event, cultural program or club, or field trip, or• receipt of an honour or award granted by or through apublic body.Additional student personal information uses anddisclosures may occur without the prior written consent ofthe student subject to acceptable consistent use standards,emergency and law enforcement situations, InformationSharing Agreements, participation in Common or IntegratedPrograms and Services, or other agreements that meet theaccess and privacy protection provisions of the AlbertaFOIP Act.Personally identifiable information of individuals andstudent work may be released to accreditation bodiesfor the purposes of program evaluation, accreditation oraccreditation renewal.Public inquiries directly related to the collection, useand disclosure of student personal information should bedirected to the Associate Registrar – Records.STUDENT PRIVACY AND SYSTEMPROTECTION RESPONSIBILITIESStudent privacy protection responsibilities include but are notlimited to:• safeguarding and protecting from unauthorized disclosureany passwords or other unique identifiers assigned tothem;• recovering and securing any assignments, examinations orother documents made available for return to them; and,• treating as confidential any personal information of thirdparties that might come into their possession duringthe course of their academic experience or while onpracticum placement.NOTIFICATION OF SURVEY PARTICIPATIONAND DISCLOSURESTo facilitate research that supports program and serviceplanning and quality improvement initiatives at MacEwanUniversity, and that enhances understanding of Alberta’sand Canada’s post-secondary educational systems, MacEwanUniversity may release student contact and other personalinformation to external agencies without prior writtenconsent, but within the allowable provisions of the AlbertaFreedom of Information and Protection of Privacy (FOIP) Act.These agencies include Statistics Canada, Alberta AdvancedEducation and Technology, and external contractors engagedby MacEwan University to conduct surveys of current andformer students.These agencies treat the contact information provided withconfidentiality, and utilize it only for the specific researchpurposes for which it was provided. Examples of surveyparticipations and related personal information disclosuresby MacEwan University may include but are not necessarilylimited to the following.MacEwan University SurveysMacEwan University contracts out telephonesurveying for our own Graduate, Early Leaver andUniversity Transfer Follow-up surveys, as wellas surveys of graduates of programs undergoingevaluation in any given year.Further information on MacEwan Universityconducted surveys may be obtained from MacEwanUniversity's Institutional Research and Planning at780-497-5403.Government of Alberta, Advanced Education AndTechnology SurveysMacEwan University supports the provincial Post-SecondaryInstitution Graduate Outcomes Survey, and the AboriginalLearner Data Collection Initiative of Alberta AdvancedEducation and Technology.Graduate Outcomes SurveyAlberta Advanced Education and Technology and the publiclyfunded post-secondary institutions collaborate to conducta biennial survey of graduates. The data collected help toinform policy development and program and service reviewand improvements. The authority to collect this informationis the Post-Secondary Learning Act sections 65 and 118.Data collected for this study fall into six broad areasof enquiry:1. Graduate demographics2. Graduate employment outcomes3. Graduate satisfaction4. Graduate awareness of post-secondary options andgraduate transitions5. Financing of post-secondary studies6.
