Courses inlighting, audio, stagecraft, set painting, prop making, modelmaking, drafting, stage management and technical directionensure that Theatre Production grads are well-equipped foremployment in the entertainment industry.Instructors who are members of the professionalcommunity provide equal parts knowledge and experience.Instruction is complemented by hands-on experience.MacEwan University’s resident Music and Theatre Artsprograms present an unequalled opportunity to gainwide-ranging experience as construction, management orrunning crew for many live productions. In addition, TheatreProduction students provide production services for, and gainvaluable exposure to, a variety of professional arts groupsthat mount productions in MacEwan University’s John L.Haar Theatre.Career potentialTheatre Production graduates are employed in professionaltheatre, film and television, as well as in the cruise line,conference and special event industries. Graduates haveplayed key behind-the-scenes roles at the Citadel Theatre,Winspear Centre, Alberta Theatre Projects, The StratfordFestival, Carnival Cruise Lines, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Disney,and Rexall Place, to cite only a few examples.TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION FOR CREATIVELEARNING (TICL)Students in the Theatre Production program will need topurchase a laptop (PC preferred) and necessary softwareidentified by the program. This initiative is designed tomaximize student learning through the use of digitaltechnology. Students interestedin transferring a completed diploma are advised to consultboth the receiving institution regarding transfer policiesand the MacEwan University Theatre Production programregarding coursework and portfolio preparation. Like theTheatre Production program at MacEwan University, otherinstitutions typically base transfer on both the application ofcreative skills as demonstrated in a portfolio presentation andon an assessment of course content.Students presenting a completed diploma in thisprogram may be eligible to receive up to 20 credits to thePost-Diploma BFA (Dramatic Arts or Multidisciplinary)or 35 credits to the Pre-Post-Diploma BFA (DramaticArts)/BEd programs at the University of Lethbridge.
