PACT-114Introduction to Ice Hockey1.5 Credits (15:30:0 hours)This course is designed to provide students with the opportunity toacquire and/or improve upon the fundamental skills requisite toproficiency as an ice hockey player. Note: Credit can only be obtainedin one of PACT 114 or PHSD 114.PACT-118Soccer1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)In this course, students examine the theoretical framework and skillsof basic soccer including passing, trapping, tackling, heading, shooting,goal keeping, small group and team attacking and defensive strategies.Note: Credit can only be obtained in only one of PHSD 118 orPACT 118.PACT-131Badminton1.5 Credits (15:30:0 hours)Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and personal skill in basicbadminton strokes and strategies. Students must supply their ownracquets and shuttlecocks. Note: Credit can only be obtained in one ofPACT 131 or PHSD 131.PACT-133Squash1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)In this course, students acquire theoretical knowledge and personalskills in basic squash strokes and strategies. Note: credit can only beobtained in one of PHSD 133 or PACT 133.PACT-137Volleyball1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)This course is designed to help the students acquire theoreticalknowledge and personal skill in the fundamental skills of volleyball.Students are taught in individual and small group settings. Note: Creditcan only be obtained in one of PACT 137 or PHSD 137.PACT-145Golf1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)In this course, students acquire theoretical knowledge and personalskill in driving, chipping, pitching and putting. This course requiresthe payment of additional fees. Students must provide their ownequipment. Note: Students who have obtained credit for PHSD 145cannot take PACT 145 for credit.PACT-155Social Dance1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)This is a dance activity course that involves the instruction of a numberof ballroom dances including, but not restricted to: the foxtrot, waltz,tango, rumba, cha cha, swing and salsa. Emphasis is placed on theacquisition of the basic movement and style of each dance, as well asstep variations and sequences. Note: Credit can only be obtained inone of PACT 155 or PHSD 155.PACT-156Yoga for Beginners1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)This course is designed to introduce students to fundamental yogapostures while developing a basic appreciation of yoga theory as itpertains to health and wellness. Students will be introduced to severaldifferent yoga forms with an emphasis on Hatha and Asthanga (power)yoga. Note: Credit can only be obtained in one of PACT 156, PACT198, or PHDS 198.PACT-180Canoeing and Kayaking1.5 Credits (15:30:0 hours)Acquisition of theoretical knowledge and personal skill in strokes,maneuvers, and rescue. Prerequisites: Red Cross Aquaquest Level 8 orRLSS Lifesaving II or YMCA Level 3 or the ability to swim front crawland back crawl efficiently. Equipment is available from the Sport andWellness Centre. This course requires some weekend commitments.Note: Credit can only be obtained in one of PACT 180 or PHSD 180.PACT-181Cross Country Skiing1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)In this course, students acquire theoretical knowledge and personalskill in the basic Nordic ski skills including classic, skating, and hillmaneuvers. The course will include weekend touring and loppett racingopportunities. Equipment is available but participants are encouragedto provide their own. Note: Credit can only be obtained in only one ofPACT 181 or PHSD 181.PACT-195Introduction to Scuba1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)This course provides students with the opportunity to acquire thetheoretical knowledge and fundamental skills required in Scuba.Note: Credit can only be obtained in one of PACT 195 or PHSD195. Students must be able to swim 200 meters and tread water for10 minutes.PACT-196Triathlon1.5 Credits (0:45:0 hours)This course provides students with the theoretical knowledge andpersonal skills in triathlon, including an introduction to swimming,cycling and running as well as nutrition, resistance training,and periodization.PACT-199Introduction to Strength Training1.5 Credits (15:30:0 hours)An introduction to the theory and practical basis of resistancetraining. The focus of the course is on the practical application ofaccepted physiological principles to program development for generalconditioning and sport specific enhancement.
