LOCAL EV INDUSTRY CASE STUDYBOSCH AUSTRALIARobert Bosch Australia Pty Ltd are part <strong>of</strong> the global Bosch group <strong>of</strong> companies. Founded in 1922 andheadquartered in Clayton, in 2012 Bosch Australia had over 1,100 employees and $680 million in sales splitbetween automotive, consumer goods, building and indus<strong>trial</strong> technologies.Bosch Australia have participated in the Victorian Electric Vehicle Trial as a fleet operator, charginginfrastructure provider and host, and <strong>vehicle</strong> supplier courtesy <strong>of</strong> their support for the EV Engineeringproject. As one <strong>of</strong> the first fleets to receive a Mitsubishi i-MiEV in December 2010, Bosch Australia haveleveraged their <strong>trial</strong> involvement to good effect.By receiving one <strong>of</strong> the <strong>trial</strong> EVs so early in the global market roll-out, Bosch Australia were able to engageat the forefront <strong>of</strong> Bosch’s global electro-mobility development activities. As a result, valuable EV chargingstation and network s<strong>of</strong>tware product and operational experience has been gained by the Bosch Australiaorganisation, years earlier than what may have occurred otherwise.A particular area <strong>of</strong> interest for Bosch both locally and globally has been network roaming interoperabilityas is discussed in Section 5.1.4. Bosch’s eMobility platform is a network solution for charginginfrastructure operators to provide customers with a seamless ‘roaming’ experience.With reference to Sections 3.1 and 5.1.2, the size and complexity <strong>of</strong> the <strong>trial</strong> has permitted Bosch Australiato investigate the network roaming model and business arrangements as an input into their global productdevelopment. An outcome has been the introduction <strong>of</strong> new products and innovation into the local market,all <strong>of</strong> which will ultimately benefit the Victorian consumer.Figure 63.
