Despite these efforts, around one infive dwellings required multiple visitsfrom the installers. Discussions withthe charging infrastructure providerssuggest that around half <strong>of</strong> thesemulti-visit sites were due to issuesthat may have been possible to discernfrom the initial information and withmore experience on behalf <strong>of</strong> theinstallers. The residual 10 per cent<strong>of</strong> households for which multiple sitevisits were thought to be unavoidablecould be mostly attributed to thelimited ability to discern the need foran <strong>electric</strong>al supply upgrade without asite visit. Figure 32 suggests that thisestimate is correct based upon theconclusion that residences built earlierthan 1970 that have not undergonesignificant renovation in the interimare more likely to be in need <strong>of</strong> an<strong>electric</strong>ity supply upgrade.5.2.2 How is charginginfrastructure installedin households?Charging infrastructure is installed by<strong>electric</strong>al contractors drawing uponinformation supplied by the household.From the time <strong>of</strong> the contractor beingnotified <strong>of</strong> the need for an installation,the process to handover usually takesabout five weeks.The average time to install a <strong>trial</strong>household charging solution was35 days, even if there was somevariability across installations(standard deviation <strong>of</strong> 17 daysacross 94 installations).Key influences on the installationleadtime include:• The accuracy and extent <strong>of</strong>information provided beforehanddescribing the household charginginstallation context• Involvement <strong>of</strong> a third party suchas a landlord or body corporate• The availability and responsiveness<strong>of</strong> the householder• Stipulation <strong>of</strong> target dates forthe installation at the time <strong>of</strong> therequest, and progress trackingthereafter (in other words, workingto a deadline)• Pre-approvals for installationswhere the site works are lessthan a reasonable thresholdvalue ($2,000 was selected forthe <strong>trial</strong> following the initialround <strong>of</strong> 14 installations)• The experience <strong>of</strong> the installer.25%20%Proportion15%10%5%0%1850 1900 1950 2000YearFigure 32.
