Kangaroo Island Futures Authority Draft Economic Impact of Agriculture and Tourism7.1.5 Economic contribution of tourism – high growth scenarioAs noted above, the high growth scenario was developed to mirror the moderate growthscenario with the exception that the average length of stay for both domestic overnight andinternational visitors is assumed to increase by one day. This means that the average length of stay would increase from 4.3 to 5.3 days for all domesticovernight visitors and from 3.1 to 4.1 days for international visitors. This equates to anincrease in the average weighted length of stay across all visitors (including day trippers) of 0.8days from the baseline 3.4 days to 4.2 days.In aggregate, it was estimated that the increase in visitor expenditure under the high growthscenario would generate the following economic activity on Kangaroo Island, compared withthe baseline, (Table 7.7):• Approximately $49 million in GRP (23 per cent increase);• Approximately 4593 full-time and part-time jobs (19 per cent increase); and• Approximately 383 fte jobs (16 per cent increase).Table 7.8abcEconomic impact of tourism expenditure growth: high growth scenarioTourismExpenditure a GRP Impact Employment Impact$m $m fte Total JobsWine and other food products 1.0 0.8 8 8Wholesale trade 1.6 1.9 14 13Retail trade 8.9 6.5 102 125Accommodation and food services 28.2 13.8 160 212Transport 4.6 2.7 24 20Ownership of Dwellings 4.1 4.9 0 0Property and business services 1.1 3.6 31 34Education 0.0 0.3 4 4Health and community services 0.0 0.4 6 7Cultural and recreational services 1.4 0.7 10 9Personal Services 0.1 0.5 9 10Other Sectors 0.0 8.0 17 17Net Taxes b 5.3 5.3 - -Imports 45.9 - - -Total (Tourism) 102.4 49.4 383 459Regional Total c - 217 2,330 2,399Tourism Contribution to Regional Total - 23% 16% 19%In basic prices, that is, net of net taxes (taxes minus subsidies) and marketing and transport margins.
