7. The panel retires <strong>to</strong> consider its decision and reconvenes as soon as possible <strong>to</strong> announce it. Itsdeliberations in reaching a decision are not recorded. It decides penalties as follows: F on <strong>the</strong>assignment(s)/evaluation(s), F in <strong>the</strong> course, suspension, or expulsion. Panel decisions are bymajority vote, and <strong>the</strong> complainant is obligated <strong>to</strong> accept <strong>the</strong> panel’s decision.8. If <strong>the</strong> panel finds in favor of <strong>the</strong> accuser (or adds additional penalties), <strong>the</strong> accused has <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong>appeal in writing <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Academic Affairs within 24 hours or by <strong>the</strong> end of <strong>the</strong> nextworking day, whichever is later. No formal grounds for this appeal are necessary.9. The modera<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> panel sends <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Academic Affairs a report on <strong>the</strong> board’s decisionand <strong>the</strong> tape recording of its deliberations. A copy of <strong>the</strong> report is also kept in <strong>the</strong> permanent file.10. The Vice President for Academic Affairs may use <strong>the</strong> tape recordings as <strong>the</strong> basis for a judgment onany appeal or may choose <strong>to</strong> speak <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> parties involved and examine <strong>the</strong> physical evidence. TheVice President communicates <strong>the</strong> result of any appeal in writing <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> accused and <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> AcademicStandards chairperson for <strong>the</strong> permanent file and states <strong>the</strong> reason for any change. The accusedremains in class pending resolution of <strong>the</strong> appeal.11. A decision of <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Academic Affairs may be appealed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> President of <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.Such appeals must be in writing and must be submitted by <strong>the</strong> accused within 24 hours or by <strong>the</strong> end of<strong>the</strong> next working day, whichever is later, after <strong>the</strong> receipt of <strong>the</strong> decision. No formal grounds for appealare necessary. The President may make any decision which he/she deems fit.Penalties1. Grade of F—The student is given a failing grade on <strong>the</strong> particular assignment(s) involved.2. Grade of F in <strong>the</strong> course—The student is given a failing grade in <strong>the</strong> course. This course can berepeated.3. Suspension—The student’s enrollment at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> is terminated involuntarily. The student canapply for re-admission after a specified amount of time and can return if his/her application is approvedby <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Enrollment Services and <strong>the</strong> Vice President for <strong>Student</strong> Development andServices. Notice of suspension is not placed on <strong>the</strong> student’s transcript. Instead, it becomes a matterof separate record in <strong>the</strong> student’s permanent file and is revealed only when deemed appropriateby <strong>the</strong> Vice President for Academic Affairs or <strong>the</strong> President.4. Expulsion—The student is required <strong>to</strong> leave <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> permanently and is not allowed <strong>to</strong> return.He/she forfeits all fees paid except board fees paid in advance. Notice of expulsion is placed on <strong>the</strong>student’s official transcript.POSTER AND FLYER POLICY1. Posters, banners and flyers cannot contain offensive language or be demeaning <strong>to</strong> any individualor group. They must be in good taste, and free from threat or violence.2. All posters and flyers must be approved by <strong>the</strong> Office of <strong>Student</strong> Development & Services before<strong>the</strong>y are displayed. This includes items displayed on tables in <strong>the</strong> dining hall and <strong>the</strong> Lion’s Den.3. The Vice President of <strong>Student</strong> Development and Services or <strong>the</strong> Associate Vice President of <strong>Student</strong>Development and Services can refuse permission <strong>to</strong> display a flyer/poster if <strong>the</strong>y feel that <strong>the</strong> contentis inappropriate.4. No poster/flyer may be larger than two feet by three feet. Advertisements and/or table tents displayedin <strong>the</strong> dining hall and Lion’s Den may be no larger than five inches by seven inches.5. No posters/flyers may be put in Davis Memorial Library or Hensdale Chapel.6. No posters/flyers may be put on glass windows or doors.7. Posters/flyers may not be attached <strong>to</strong> trees, light poles, or <strong>the</strong> bell <strong>to</strong>wer.8. All posters/flyers are not <strong>to</strong> be hung with masking tape, but with some o<strong>the</strong>r substance approved by<strong>the</strong> Vice President of <strong>Student</strong> Development and Services or <strong>the</strong> Associate Vice President of <strong>Student</strong>Development and Services.9. All posters/flyers must be removed within twenty-four (24) hours of <strong>the</strong> event.10. Posters and flyers should be posted on <strong>the</strong> bulletin boards provided for this purpose.11. Posters/flyers that have not been approved, or that do not meet <strong>the</strong> guidelines above, will be removed.17
