<strong>Student</strong> Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC)SCEC is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> chapter of <strong>the</strong> Council for Exceptional Children (SCEC). SCEC is <strong>the</strong> largestinternational professional organization dedicated <strong>to</strong> improving educational outcomes for individuals with exceptionalities.<strong>Student</strong> SCEC is <strong>the</strong> part of SCEC that serves <strong>the</strong> needs of future professionals in special educationand related fields. <strong>Student</strong> SCEC membership is open <strong>to</strong> all students interested in making positive changes in<strong>the</strong> lives of those with disabilities and/or who are gifted. Special education majors are particularly encouraged <strong>to</strong>join. SCEC membership offers opportunities for leadership and development, career advice, and peer support.<strong>Student</strong> Education AssociationThe SEA is <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> chapter of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> North Carolina Association of Educa<strong>to</strong>rs (SNCAE)and <strong>the</strong> National Education Association (NEA), <strong>the</strong> professional organization for teachers and educa<strong>to</strong>rs.The organization is open <strong>to</strong> freshmen, sophomores, juniors, and seniors planning <strong>to</strong> teach in any field or atany level; membership is affiliated with <strong>the</strong> state and national organizations, with access <strong>to</strong> all services (i.e.,discounts). SEA provides programs of interest <strong>to</strong> students entering <strong>the</strong> teaching profession and opportunitiesfor leadership and professional development.Dr. Jaunita Heyward, 630-7051<strong>Student</strong> Government AssociationThe <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> S.G.A. is composed of all full-time day students and evening students who choose<strong>to</strong> pay <strong>the</strong> activity fee. The association is governed by a constitution and directed by officers and sena<strong>to</strong>rselected by <strong>the</strong> student body. The purpose of <strong>the</strong> S.G.A. is <strong>to</strong> represent <strong>the</strong> students <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>administration and design programs <strong>to</strong> meet <strong>the</strong> needs of <strong>the</strong> students. All students are encouraged <strong>to</strong>participate in <strong>the</strong> programs sponsored by <strong>the</strong> S.G.A. and <strong>to</strong> provide new ideas for implementation. Its purpose is <strong>to</strong> reward students for <strong>the</strong>ir efforts,services and accomplishments in all aspects of print media.Members must elevate <strong>the</strong> cause of mass communications by practicing journalism ethics and techniques,by reporting <strong>the</strong> truth objectively, and by allowing freedom of expression and exchange of ideas throughout<strong>the</strong> campus and community. SIFE isopen <strong>to</strong> all sophomores, juniors, and seniors with a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 and above. SIFE memberstake part in Regional and National competitions for trophies, cash prizes, and o<strong>the</strong>r awards. <strong>Student</strong>sparticipating in SIFE for a full year receive four (4) credit hours <strong>to</strong>ward graduation.<strong>Student</strong>s Promoting <strong>the</strong> Welfare of Animals (SPWA)SPWA is a student organization dedicated <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> humane treatment of companion animals. Opportunitiesfor members include periodically working as a volunteer at local animal shelters, assisting in running abehavioral clinic on campus for dogs, recruiting student members at MU, helping <strong>to</strong> establish in NorthCarolina chapters of SPWA at colleges and o<strong>the</strong>r universities and affiliate organizations in primary andsecondary schools, raising funds for both SPWA and community animal shelters, raising consciousnessin <strong>the</strong> local community about <strong>the</strong> need for spay/neutering and <strong>the</strong> adoption of homeless companionanimals, and politically advocating <strong>the</strong> humane treatment of homeless companion animals.Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/group.php?gid=72733992688&ref=tsDr. John Campbell 630-7069, Campbell@methodist.eduTriple Threat Step TeamThe purpose of <strong>the</strong> Triple Threat Step Team is <strong>to</strong> engage, entertain and expose <strong>the</strong> students of <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong> <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> art of step dancing.Women’s Bible Study: JOYWomen’s Bible Study is a group of women who meet each week <strong>to</strong> grow in <strong>the</strong>ir relationship with Christ andone ano<strong>the</strong>r. It is led by students and open <strong>to</strong> all students, faculty and staff at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> who wouldlike <strong>to</strong> learn more about Christ and Christianity and/or become part of a Christ-based support system.
