Show ChoirThe <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Show Choir....SYNERGY....is a group of individuals chosen for <strong>the</strong>ir personality,moral character, leadership qualities, as well as for <strong>the</strong>ir interest in and dedication <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> performanceof music. This group performs a reper<strong>to</strong>ire of popular music with choreography and is accompanied bya variety of musical instruments.Sharon McNair, 630-7100Sigma Delta PI, MU Chapter PSI TAUSigma Delta Pi, <strong>the</strong> National Collegiate Hispanic Honor Society (La Sociedad Nacional Honoraria Hispanica),was established on November 14, 1919, at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> of California, Berkely. The MU Chapter wasestablished in 2010. The Society’s purposes are: 1) To honor those who attain excellence in <strong>the</strong> study of <strong>the</strong>Spanish language and in <strong>the</strong> study of <strong>the</strong> literature and culture of <strong>the</strong> Spanish-speaking peoples; 2) To honorthose who have made <strong>the</strong> Hispanic contributions <strong>to</strong> modern culture better known in <strong>the</strong> English-speaking world;3) To encourage college and university students <strong>to</strong> acquire a greater interest in and a deeper understandingof Hispanic culture; 4) To foster friendly relations and mutual respect between <strong>the</strong> nations of Hispanic speechand those of English speech; 5) To serve its membership in ways which will contribute <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> attainment of<strong>the</strong> goals and ideals of <strong>the</strong> society. Each student must have completed three years of study of college-levelSpanish (eighteen semester credit hours) or <strong>the</strong> equivalent <strong>the</strong>reof, including at least three semester hours ofa course in Hispanic literature or Hispanic culture and civilization at <strong>the</strong> junior (third-year) level. A student maybe admitted <strong>to</strong> active membership while still enrolled in <strong>the</strong> second junior-level course if all o<strong>the</strong>r requirementshave been met and if <strong>the</strong> instruc<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> course certifies that <strong>the</strong> student’s work is of “B” or “A” quality. Thecandidate for active membership must have a minimal grade point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 point scale in allSpanish courses taken. The candidate must rank in <strong>the</strong> upper 35% of his/her class—sophomore, junior, orsenior—and must have completed at least three semesters or five quarters of college work.Dr. Cristina Francescon, 630-7082Sigma Tau DeltaThe purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is <strong>to</strong> be literary, educational, and charitable. Sigma Tau Delta strives <strong>to</strong>confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate, graduate,and professional studies; provide, through its local chapters, cultural stimulation on <strong>University</strong> campusesand <strong>to</strong> promote interest in literature and <strong>the</strong> English language in <strong>the</strong> surrounding communities; foster<strong>the</strong> discipline of English in all its aspects, including creative and critical writing; promote good fellowshipamong its members; and exhibit high standards of academic excellence.Nancy Alexander, 630-7695Social Work Club<strong>Student</strong>s who are interested in or majoring in social work are encouraged <strong>to</strong> join <strong>the</strong> social work studen<strong>to</strong>rganization. The student organization is au<strong>to</strong>nomous, but is assigned a social work faculty adviser.<strong>Student</strong>s elect officers, approve changes <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> by-laws, and decide on <strong>the</strong>ir annual program of activities.Speakers, visits <strong>to</strong> social service agencies and job fairs, community service activities such as helpingwith food harvests for <strong>the</strong> food bank, providing holiday food boxes for families and social events suchas barbecues or picnics are among <strong>the</strong> activities. Dues are nominal and waived for anyone who cannotafford <strong>the</strong>m. The group meets bi-monthly. Meeting times and locations are posted on bulletin boards inand near T-310 and on social work faculty office doors in <strong>the</strong> Trustees’ Building.Mary Deyampert-McCall, 630-7698Sociology ClubThe Sociology Club provides students, staff and faculty an opportunity <strong>to</strong> share information and addresscommunity and world concerns through interactions with fellow students and people in our community.The purpose of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Sociology Club is <strong>to</strong> provide a club that is open <strong>to</strong> students fromdiverse backgrounds that are interested in studying humanity for <strong>the</strong> purpose of service and committed <strong>to</strong>openly discuss societal issues that relate <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus and our local community.Membership shall be open <strong>to</strong> all students, staff and faculty interested in participating in, learning about andbeing exposed <strong>to</strong> societal issues as a means of providing community service and goodwill <strong>to</strong> those in need.Dr. Vida Bajc, 630-7089 and John Sill, 630-7088<strong>Student</strong> Activities CommitteeThe SAC is charged with <strong>the</strong> responsibility of planning and implementing student entertainment andspecial activities (i.e., comedians, novelty acts, homecoming, coffee house series) held on <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong> campus.
