Pep BandThe Pep Band is open <strong>to</strong> all students on campus. This ensemble performs throughout <strong>the</strong> football andbasketball seasons. Pi Kappa Alpha’s men are also called PIKES. The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded at<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Virginia on March 1, 1868. PIKES is currently going through <strong>the</strong> process of becoming an officialcolony on campus. They started up in <strong>the</strong> Spring of <strong>2012</strong>. Their recruitment process is fully recommendations only.Pi Sigma AlphaPi Sigma Alpha is <strong>the</strong> national honor society for Political Science. It was founded in 1920 at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>of Texas for <strong>the</strong> purpose of bringing <strong>to</strong>ge<strong>the</strong>r students and faculty <strong>to</strong> stimulate scholarship and intelligentinterest in Political Science. Today <strong>the</strong>re are over 650 chapters nationwide. Qualifications include being rankedin <strong>the</strong> <strong>to</strong>p third of one’s graduating class, and having a 3.0 GPA in all Political Science classes. <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong>’s Omega Chi chapter has been active since 2001, and has inducted 99 members. Information aboutscholarships and o<strong>the</strong>r opportunities can be obtained from <strong>the</strong> national web site: http://www.apsanet.org/~psa/.Dr. Chris Cronin, 630-7665Phi Sigma IotaPhi Sigma Iota is an international honor society for juniors and seniors majoring or minoring in foreignlanguages who have at least a B average in <strong>the</strong>ir entire <strong>University</strong> work and in all foreign language courses,have completed at least one course at <strong>the</strong> third-year level, and rank in <strong>the</strong> highest thirty-five percent of<strong>the</strong>ir class in general scholarship. The purpose of this honor society is stated in <strong>the</strong> mot<strong>to</strong>: “To understando<strong>the</strong>rs is <strong>to</strong> understand oneself, one’s culture, and one’s heritage.” The goal is <strong>to</strong> foster <strong>the</strong> learning offoreign languages as a means of achieving a better understanding among individuals and nations. PhiSigma Iota awards scholarships, fellowships, and grants <strong>to</strong> deserving, ambitious, young undergraduateand graduate students, as well as faculty, <strong>to</strong> complete scholarly programs in foreign languages, literatures,and cultures. The Kappa Gamma Chapter at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> was chartered in 1985.70
