The paved parking lot of Cape Fear Commons residence hall is reserved for students and staff who live inthat specific community. Parking decals and numerically-matching hang tags will be issued <strong>to</strong> residentsof Cape Fear Commons allowing <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> park in signed, designated areas. The supplemental hang tagmust be displayed on <strong>the</strong> inside rear view mirror of <strong>the</strong> assigned vehicle so that it is clearly legible fromoutside <strong>the</strong> vehicle. Cape Fear Commons residents may also park in <strong>the</strong> adjacent unpaved overflow lot.The paved parking lot of <strong>the</strong> McLean Complex is reserved for students and staff who live in that specificcommunity. Parking decals and numerically-matching hang tags will be issued <strong>to</strong> residents of McLeanallowing <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> park in signed, designated areas. The supplemental hang tag must be displayed on<strong>the</strong> inside rear view mirror of <strong>the</strong> assigned vehicle so that it is clearly legible from outside <strong>the</strong> vehicle.McLean residents may also park in <strong>the</strong> unpaved overflow lot near Cape Fear Commons.The paved parking lots adjacent <strong>to</strong> Village residence halls (including North Hall) and on / connecting <strong>to</strong>Robert Johnson Drive are reserved for students and staff who live in Village residence halls. Parkingdecals and numerically-matching hang tags will be issued <strong>to</strong> Village residents allowing <strong>the</strong>m <strong>to</strong> park insigned, designated areas. The supplemental hang tag must be displayed on <strong>the</strong> inside rear view mirrorof <strong>the</strong> assigned vehicle in a manner so as <strong>to</strong> be legible from outside <strong>the</strong> vehicle.Parking along <strong>the</strong> curb in front of any residence hall or facility on campus is not permitted at any timeexcept for emergency, service, and maintenance vehicles.Commuter <strong>Student</strong> ParkingCommuter <strong>Student</strong>s who choose <strong>to</strong> operate a vehicle on campus must obtain a Commuter Parking Permit.Commuter <strong>Student</strong>s may not park in marked Visi<strong>to</strong>r Spaces adjacent <strong>to</strong> residence halls.Commuter <strong>Student</strong>s may park in any available and o<strong>the</strong>rwise unrestricted space in <strong>the</strong> Clark Hall Lot,Reeves Audi<strong>to</strong>rium Lot, Berns – Riddle Center Lot, Hendricks Lot, Bethune Art Center Lot, Player CenterLot, Baseball Stadium Lot, and <strong>the</strong> gravel lot behind <strong>the</strong> Riddle Center.Visi<strong>to</strong>r Parking SpacesOne hour parking is permitted in <strong>the</strong> Visi<strong>to</strong>r spaces near Horner Administration Building for personsconducting business in that building.Two hour parking is permitted in marked visi<strong>to</strong>r spaces adjacent <strong>to</strong> residence halls for vehicles properlydisplaying a current Visi<strong>to</strong>r PassOverflow parking for residence hall visi<strong>to</strong>rs is available in <strong>the</strong> Berns – Riddle Center parking lot and in<strong>the</strong> Player’s Center parking lot.Commuter or Resident students may not park in marked visi<strong>to</strong>r spaces adjacent <strong>to</strong> residence halls.Vehicle OperationPedestrians Have <strong>the</strong> Right of WayPedestrians shall have <strong>the</strong> right of way on campus.Vehicle opera<strong>to</strong>rs are expected <strong>to</strong> yield <strong>to</strong> pedestrians at all times.Vehicles shall be operated with due caution for <strong>the</strong> safety of <strong>the</strong> pedestrians and o<strong>the</strong>r mo<strong>to</strong>rists on campus.North Carolina Laws ApplyAll applicable mo<strong>to</strong>r vehicle laws of <strong>the</strong> State of North Carolina are in force on campus.Any vehicle operated on <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> property shall have in full force and affect <strong>the</strong> financialresponsibility (liability insurance) for <strong>the</strong> vehicle as required by <strong>the</strong> State of North Carolina.Vehicles are required <strong>to</strong> be properly registered, inspected and licensed by <strong>the</strong> State of North Carolinaor <strong>the</strong> state in which <strong>the</strong> vehicle’s owner maintains legal residence.Campus Speed RegulationsThe campus-wide speed limit on named streets is fifteen (15) miles per hour unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise posted.The speed limit in all parking areas on campus is five (5) miles per hour.The speed limit on Joe S<strong>to</strong>ut View Drive adjacent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Berns <strong>Student</strong> Center is 5 miles per hour. Thespeed limit on Robert Johnson Drive from Joe S<strong>to</strong>ut View <strong>to</strong> Ramsey Street is 20 miles per hour.Mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle, Bicycle, and Moped OperationsMo<strong>to</strong>rcycle, bicycle, and moped opera<strong>to</strong>rs and <strong>the</strong>ir passengers must wear appropriate headgear asrequired by North Carolina state law. The number of passengers on any mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle, moped, or bicycleshall not exceed <strong>the</strong> maximum number of riders for which <strong>the</strong> vehicle was designed. Proper mo<strong>to</strong>rcycleopera<strong>to</strong>r license endorsements are required when operating a mo<strong>to</strong>rcycle on campus.55
