No one will be admitted in<strong>to</strong> an event without proper identification.Special exception guests should be listed and given <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> office of Police & Public Safety no later thanfive working days before an event, program, or private party. Examples include entertainers, dining staffnot affiliated with <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>, etc.Chaperones/Security PolicyEvents/programs held in a student center must adhere <strong>to</strong> general policies of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> andlaws of <strong>the</strong> state of North Carolina.Sponsoring organizations agree that programs will not conflict with any copyright, civil rights, free speech law, etc.Events held by student organizations should have a faculty or staff chaperone (i.e. <strong>the</strong> organization’sadvisor) present.Events with an expected attendance of 200 or more persons will be required <strong>to</strong> contact <strong>the</strong> office of Police &Public Safety no later than 1 week before <strong>the</strong> event <strong>to</strong> arrange any needed parking and/or security requirements.Greek LifeGreek Life at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> provides <strong>the</strong> opportunity for students <strong>to</strong> participate in a uniqueexperience. Fraternities and sororities have a long standing tradition of community service, excellencein scholarship, leadership development, risk management programs, and sisterhood/bro<strong>the</strong>rhood. The<strong>Methodist</strong> Greek Life program is dedicated <strong>to</strong> upholding <strong>the</strong> traditions of fraternal organizations with <strong>the</strong>goal of continuing <strong>the</strong> expansion process <strong>to</strong> form new colonies over <strong>the</strong> next couple of years. Allstudents interested in participating in fall recruitment will need <strong>to</strong> sign up with <strong>the</strong> fraternity or sorority of interest.Spring recruitment will take place in January (dates <strong>to</strong> be announced). Please come <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office of GreekLife for information about specific rules and regulations, and events taking place during recruitment week.Interest Group and Expansion processAny individuals or groups interested in forming a new interest group for <strong>the</strong> purpose of affiliating witha National Panhellenic, National Pan-Hellenic, North Atlantic Inter-fraternal, or any o<strong>the</strong>r Nationallyrecognized Greek organization not already present on campus should contact <strong>the</strong> Greek Life Coordina<strong>to</strong>r in<strong>the</strong> Office of Greek Life in Berns <strong>Student</strong> Center for specific information regarding <strong>the</strong> expansion process.• With <strong>the</strong> support of <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Government Association, <strong>the</strong> Greek Council takes full responsibilityfor initially recognizing new organizations with <strong>the</strong> goal <strong>to</strong> be established as a Greek Organization.• All individuals or interest groups should be prepared <strong>to</strong> present <strong>the</strong>ir constitution, goals, and affiliationrequests <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Greek Council at a Greek Council meeting.• The Greek Council under <strong>the</strong> direction of <strong>the</strong> Greek Life Coordina<strong>to</strong>r has <strong>the</strong> authority <strong>to</strong> approveor disapprove any and all Greek interest groups.Statement for AccountabilityAll students involved in Greek letter organizations, including but not limited <strong>to</strong> chapters, colonies, localsororities/fraternities, and interest groups that are classified as social in nature will be held accountable<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> rules and regulations outlined in <strong>the</strong> <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Greek Life Handbook. Acopy of <strong>the</strong> <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Greek Life Handbook will be provided <strong>to</strong> all active chapters,colonies, local sororities/fraternities, and interest groups.Current OrganizationsAlpha Delta PiFor more than 150 years, extraordinary women have called Alpha Delta Pi home. Originally called <strong>the</strong>“Adelphean Society,” Alpha Delta Pi was <strong>the</strong> first sorority in <strong>the</strong> world and forged <strong>the</strong> way for women in<strong>the</strong> fraternity system. Our founding <strong>to</strong>ok place on May 15, 1851 at Wesleyan Female College in Macon,Georgia-<strong>the</strong> first college in <strong>the</strong> world chartered <strong>to</strong> grant degrees <strong>to</strong> women. Throughout time we haveconsistently placed a high priority upon scholarship, service <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> community, and <strong>the</strong> personal developmen<strong>to</strong>f each of our members. Alpha Delta Pi joined <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus in <strong>the</strong> spring of 2008.Kappa SigmaThe Kappa Sigma fraternity is committed <strong>to</strong> fostering a close cooperative partnership with all colleges anduniversities with existing chapters.
