Following are <strong>the</strong> procedures for <strong>the</strong> correction of records:1. A student must ask <strong>the</strong> appropriate official of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> <strong>to</strong> amend a record. In so doing,<strong>the</strong> student should identify <strong>the</strong> part of <strong>the</strong> record he/she wants changed and specify why it is believedinaccurate, misleading, or in violation of his/her privacy or o<strong>the</strong>r rights.2. If it chooses not <strong>to</strong> comply with <strong>the</strong> request, <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> will notify <strong>the</strong> student of <strong>the</strong> decisionand advise him/her of <strong>the</strong> right of a hearing <strong>to</strong> challenge <strong>the</strong> information believed <strong>to</strong> be inaccurate,misleading, or in violation of <strong>the</strong> student’s rights.3. Upon request, <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> will arrange for a hearing and notify <strong>the</strong> student reasonably inadvance of <strong>the</strong> date, place, and time of <strong>the</strong> hearing.4. The hearing will be conducted by a hearing officer who is a disinterested party; however, <strong>the</strong> hearingofficer may be an official of <strong>the</strong> institution. The student shall be afforded a full and fair opportunity<strong>to</strong> present evidence relevant <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> issues raised in <strong>the</strong> original request <strong>to</strong> amend <strong>the</strong> student’seducational records. The student may be assisted by one or more individuals, including an at<strong>to</strong>rney.5. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> will prepare a written decision based on <strong>the</strong> evidence presented at <strong>the</strong> hearing.The decision will include a summary of <strong>the</strong> evidence presented and <strong>the</strong> reasons for <strong>the</strong> decision.6. If <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> decides that <strong>the</strong> challenged information is not inaccurate, misleading, or inviolation of <strong>the</strong> student’s right of privacy, it will notify <strong>the</strong> student that he/she has a right <strong>to</strong> place in<strong>the</strong> record a statement commenting on <strong>the</strong> challenged information and/or a statement setting forthreasons for disagreeing with <strong>the</strong> decision.7. The statement will be maintained as part of <strong>the</strong> student’s educational records so long as <strong>the</strong> contestedportion is maintained. If <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> discloses <strong>the</strong> contested portion of <strong>the</strong> record, it mustalso disclose <strong>the</strong> statement.8. If <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> decides that <strong>the</strong> information is inaccurate, misleading, or in violation of <strong>the</strong> student’sright of privacy, it will amend <strong>the</strong> record and notify <strong>the</strong> student, in writing, that <strong>the</strong> record has been amended.None of <strong>the</strong> provisions of ei<strong>the</strong>r FERPA or MUSERPP should be construed in any way <strong>to</strong> affect <strong>the</strong> privaterelationship that exists between faculty member and student. Individual faculty members may informindividual students of grades awarded for coursework taken, so long as <strong>the</strong> information is shared in aprivate manner. Public posting of grades, even by a student, is forbidden. The United States Post Officeis considered <strong>to</strong> be a private means of communication.This policy statement supersedes <strong>the</strong> statement of July 1, 1988.Tu<strong>to</strong>ring Services and TestingTu<strong>to</strong>ring ServicesThe Tu<strong>to</strong>ring and Testing Center is located in Davis Memorial Library. Tu<strong>to</strong>ring services are available <strong>to</strong> all<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> students free of charge. For more information, contact 630-7151. You may also accessthis information and view <strong>the</strong> tu<strong>to</strong>ring schedule on <strong>the</strong> MU website under Academic/Academic Support.CLEP and DANTES Testing<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> students may earn course credit by performing satisfac<strong>to</strong>rily on <strong>the</strong> College LevelExamination Program (CLEP) or Dantes Subject Standardized Tests. These tests are offered for a numberof subjects and <strong>the</strong> amount of credit depends on <strong>the</strong> test taken. Please note that <strong>the</strong>se tests CANNOT beused <strong>to</strong> replace previously earned academic grades at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>. You must schedule testing aweek in advance. For fur<strong>the</strong>r information or <strong>to</strong> schedule a test, please call 630-7151 or visit <strong>the</strong> Tu<strong>to</strong>ringand Testing Center in Davis Memorial Library. You may also access this information on <strong>the</strong> MU websiteunder Academics/Alternate Forms of Academic Credit.DEMONSTRATION AND PEACEFUL ASSEMBLY<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>, as an educational institution, believes that <strong>the</strong> right of expression and inquiry isessential <strong>to</strong> both <strong>the</strong> pursuit and dissemination of knowledge and truth and that right must be guarded,protected, and preserved. Members of <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> community, both individually and collectively,are <strong>the</strong>refore encouraged <strong>to</strong> express <strong>the</strong>ir views through <strong>the</strong> normal channels of communication. The<strong>University</strong> also recognizes <strong>the</strong> right of <strong>the</strong> individual <strong>to</strong> express his/her views by demonstrating peacefullyand constructively for concepts and beliefs he/she wishes <strong>to</strong> make known.The <strong>University</strong> also has an obligation <strong>to</strong> protect <strong>the</strong> rights and freedom of individuals who do not wish <strong>to</strong>participate in a demonstration and who do not wish <strong>to</strong> have <strong>the</strong>ir educational and employment pursuitsinterrupted. The <strong>University</strong> is also obligated <strong>to</strong> protect its property and <strong>to</strong> prevent interference withscheduled activities of students, faculty, and staff of <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>, as well as of any person who maybe a guest on <strong>the</strong> campus. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> will also uphold local, state, and federal laws and willattempt <strong>to</strong> inform students, staff, and faculty of such laws and o<strong>the</strong>r regulations.21
