MISSING PERSONThe <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Department of Public Safety will exert every reasonable effort <strong>to</strong> locate a student,visi<strong>to</strong>r, faculty or staff member who is reported as missing from <strong>the</strong> campus. To file a report regardingany person believed <strong>to</strong> be missing from <strong>the</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> campus, you may personally come <strong>to</strong><strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety Office or you may contact our agency by phone at 910-630-7577 or910-630-7098. A <strong>University</strong> Police Officer will ei<strong>the</strong>r speak with you by phone or come <strong>to</strong> your locationon campus. There is no requirement that a person be missing for 24 hours or more before apolice report can be filed. Prompt reporting is always appropriate! <strong>University</strong> Police will collaborateand share information regarding missing persons with o<strong>the</strong>r law enforcement agencies via <strong>the</strong> NationalLaw Enforcement Telecommunications System.If a <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> student has been missing from <strong>the</strong> campus for 24 hours, a report must be made<strong>to</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Police and any of <strong>the</strong> following officials:Vice President for <strong>Student</strong> Development and ServicesAssociate Dean of <strong>Student</strong>sCampus Security Officers,All O<strong>the</strong>r Faculty and Staff MembersDirec<strong>to</strong>r of Residence LifeResidential Coordina<strong>to</strong>rsResidential AssistantsAny of <strong>the</strong>se officials who receive a report that a student has been missing for 24 hours must immediately confirmthat a missing person report has also been (or is in <strong>the</strong> process of being) made <strong>to</strong> <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Police.If <strong>the</strong> missing student is under <strong>the</strong> age of 18, that student’s parent(s) or legal guardian(s) will also be notified.All students living in on-campus student housing facilities have <strong>the</strong> option <strong>to</strong> register a confidential contact person<strong>to</strong> be notified in <strong>the</strong> case that <strong>the</strong> student is determined <strong>to</strong> be missing. Only authorized university officials andlaw enforcement officers in fur<strong>the</strong>rance of a missing person investigation will have access <strong>to</strong> this information.<strong>Student</strong>s who choose <strong>to</strong> exercise this option may contact <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety <strong>to</strong> obtain a form<strong>to</strong> document <strong>the</strong>ir information. Forms may be requested via telephone or e-mail (japhillips@methodist.edu)Parking and vehicle operation on CampusParking and driving on <strong>the</strong> campus of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> are privileges. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong>right <strong>to</strong> regulate vehicle operation and parking on <strong>University</strong> property at any time and for any reason.All mo<strong>to</strong>r vehicles, including mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles and mo<strong>to</strong>r scooters, parked on campus must have <strong>the</strong> appropriateparking permit or pass issued by <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety. The possession of a valid parkingpermit or pass does not guarantee <strong>the</strong> availability of a parking space.Lack of parking spaces, lack of knowledge of campus vehicle operation and parking regulations or <strong>the</strong> occurrenceof inclement wea<strong>the</strong>r does not excuse violations of campus vehicle operation and parking regulations.All vehicles must enter <strong>the</strong> campus through <strong>the</strong> Welcome Center Gate or College Centre Drive.Abandoned, inoperable, or junked vehicles may be <strong>to</strong>wed from <strong>University</strong> property at any time withoutadditional prior notice.Nei<strong>the</strong>r <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> nor its employees assume any responsibility for loss from <strong>the</strong>ft or damage <strong>to</strong>vehicles located on <strong>University</strong> property.Vehicle Parking PermitsParking permits are only issued upon presentation of valid vehicle registration, valid driver’s license,proof of <strong>University</strong> affiliation, and payment of <strong>the</strong> appropriate fee.Parking permits may be purchased by registered students at <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety’s Officeduring regular business hours. Special arrangements are made for extended sales hours during Springand Fall Orientations and Evening Class registration periods.Payment OptionsPayments for parking permits may be made with cash or checks at <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety’sOffice. Credit and debit card payments must be made at <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>’s Business Office in <strong>the</strong> HornerAdministration Building. <strong>Student</strong>s may pay in advance at <strong>the</strong> Business Office and present <strong>the</strong>ir receipt<strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety as proof of payment <strong>to</strong> obtain <strong>the</strong>ir parking permit. Even whenprepayment is made, students must still present a valid vehicle registration, valid driver’s license andproof of <strong>University</strong> affiliation <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety in order <strong>to</strong> obtain a parking permit.52
