Placement of Parking Permits on VehiclesParking permits must be affixed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> outside of <strong>the</strong> driver’s side front windshield in <strong>the</strong> upper corner of<strong>the</strong> windshield or <strong>the</strong> permit may be affixed <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> driver’s side front bumper below <strong>the</strong> headlight. Hangtags (where applicable) must be displayed on <strong>the</strong> inside rear-view mirror.Vehicles are not properly registered until <strong>the</strong> valid parking permit is affixed as described above <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>vehicle for which it was issued.The parking permit must be clearly visible and legible from at least 6 feet away. Valid parking permitsthat become damaged or worn will be replaced free of charge so long as <strong>the</strong> damaged or worn permitis surrendered <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety.Temporary Parking PermitsTemporary parking permits may be obtained free of charge from <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety byany student, faculty or staff member who also possesses a valid <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> parking permit.Temporary parking permits are normally issued for a maximum of seven (7) consecutive calendar daysand must be obtained prior <strong>to</strong> parking on campus.Applicants for temporary parking permits must produce a valid vehicle registration, driver’s license, andMU ID card when requesting a temporary parking permit. Applicants must also verify that <strong>the</strong>y will be<strong>the</strong> primary opera<strong>to</strong>r of <strong>the</strong> vehicle while <strong>the</strong> temporary parking permit is in force.No more than two (2) temporary passes, regardless of duration, may be issued <strong>to</strong> any student persemester unless special permission is obtained from <strong>the</strong> Direc<strong>to</strong>r of Public Safety. The issuance oftemporary passes is tracked both by person and vehicle.Responsibility for Parking ViolationsIt shall be presumed that <strong>the</strong> person <strong>to</strong> whom a vehicle’s parking permit is issued is <strong>the</strong> opera<strong>to</strong>r of anyvehicle found in violation of <strong>University</strong> parking regulations. The person <strong>to</strong> whom <strong>the</strong> parking permit isissued shall be responsible for any parking violations and fines.Reserved and Restricted ParkingUnauthorized use of a handicap placard or license plate in any properly marked handicapped parkingspace violates both <strong>University</strong> regulations and North Carolina state law. Handicap spaces must bemarked with a vertical sign and painted demarcation lines.Spaces marked Faculty/Staff are reserved for <strong>the</strong> exclusive use of faculty and staff members Mondaythrough Friday from 5:00 AM <strong>to</strong> 4:00 PM (unless o<strong>the</strong>rwise noted by signs for specific parking spaces).Spaces marked “Maintenance Vehicle Only” or “Service Vehicle Only” are reserved at all times formaintenance and service vehicles.Unrestricted spaces in <strong>the</strong> parking lots serving Clark Hall, Trustees’ Building, Hendricks Science,and Reeves Audi<strong>to</strong>rium are reserved for Commuter <strong>Student</strong>s Monday through Friday from 7:00 A.M.<strong>to</strong> 4:00 P.M.The small lot adjacent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> lower level of <strong>the</strong> Trustee’s Building is reserved for handicap parking andservice vehicles only and is also a loading zone.The small lot adjacent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> lower level of Davis Memorial Library is reserved for faculty and staff, andis also a loading zone.The small lot adjacent <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Hendricks Science Annex is reserved for handicap parking and servicevehicles only.No parking is allowed at any time in any area marked with or displaying a sign bearing <strong>the</strong> words “No Parking.”No vehicle shall be parked adjacent <strong>to</strong> a yellow-painted curb, landscape timber, or barrier.No parking is allowed in any fire lane. This includes, but is not limited <strong>to</strong>, any area so marked using signs, paintedwords or symbols that is adjacent <strong>to</strong> any campus structure or building including residence halls.No parking, except <strong>to</strong> load or unload a service or vendor vehicle for a maximum of thirty (30) minutes,is allowed in any loading zone.No parking is allowed in front of, or adjacent <strong>to</strong>, any dumpster.No vehicle shall be parked in such a manner so as <strong>to</strong> restrict <strong>the</strong> flow of traffic.Resident <strong>Student</strong> ParkingResident <strong>Student</strong>s who choose <strong>to</strong> operate a vehicle on campus must obtain a Resident Parking Permit.Resident <strong>Student</strong>s and visi<strong>to</strong>rs may not park in spaces reserved for Residence Life professional staff.Residents are responsible for ensuring <strong>the</strong>ir visi<strong>to</strong>rs adhere <strong>to</strong> all applicable campus parking regulations.54
