Public Safety ServicesID Card Services (630-7149)<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Identification Cards are an integral part of <strong>University</strong> life, used <strong>to</strong> gain access <strong>to</strong>authorized residence halls, pay for meals in <strong>the</strong> Green and Gold Café, check out a library book, andaccess many more campus services.Community members must have <strong>the</strong>ir MU ID Card with <strong>the</strong>m at all times while on campus. MU IDCards must be presented <strong>to</strong> any <strong>University</strong> official upon request.MU ID Cards remain <strong>the</strong> property of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> regardless of <strong>the</strong> bearer’s current status with<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>.MU ID Cards are issued free of charge at <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety’s Office during regular businesshours. Special arrangements are made for extended business hours during Fall and Spring Orientation,and Evening Class registration periods. In order <strong>to</strong> obtain an MU ID Card, community members mustproduce one of <strong>the</strong> following: military identification card, valid passport, driver’s license, or any o<strong>the</strong>r validstate-issued identification card. Lost or s<strong>to</strong>len cards should be reported immediately <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Departmen<strong>to</strong>f Public Safety. Please note that <strong>the</strong>re is a $10.00 replacement cost for lost MU ID cards!Emergency Alert Notification SystemThe <strong>University</strong> is equipped with an Emergency Alert Notification (E.A.N.) System and an air siren. In <strong>the</strong>event of severe wea<strong>the</strong>r or any o<strong>the</strong>r emergency, a message containing important information about <strong>the</strong>situation will be transmitted by e-mail, SMS text, and / or telephone. <strong>University</strong>-owned telephones and<strong>the</strong> campus e-mail network are already linked <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> E.A.N. system. MU students, faculty, staff, andparents are strongly encouraged <strong>to</strong> “opt-in” <strong>to</strong> this free service by also providing <strong>the</strong>ir personaltelephone numbers and e-mail addresses. The Department of Public Safety will provide a printed formfor this purpose upon request. No personal contact information provided will be fur<strong>the</strong>r disseminatedwithout <strong>the</strong> express permission of <strong>the</strong> student, faculty, staff, or parent.An air siren is located on <strong>the</strong> roof of Garber Hall. The siren is tested periodically. The communitywill be notified in advance of all siren tests. In <strong>the</strong> event of severe wea<strong>the</strong>r or o<strong>the</strong>r emergencyrequiring immediate response, <strong>the</strong> air siren will sound continuously for three minutes. Communitymembers should immediately seek shelter. When <strong>the</strong> emergency has abated, <strong>the</strong> siren will againsound for one minute <strong>to</strong> signal that <strong>the</strong> situation appears clear.Campus Emergency Call BoxesThere are a <strong>to</strong>tal of 23 emergency call boxes located throughout <strong>the</strong> campus. The emergency call boxesare identified by distinctive signs and / or blue lights. Call boxes located outside also have a blue lightdisplayed above <strong>the</strong>m. Some emergency call boxes have two call but<strong>to</strong>ns. Always press <strong>the</strong> REDbut<strong>to</strong>n for emergencies or <strong>to</strong> request assistance. Officers will respond <strong>to</strong> you immediately.Campus Security Escorts (630-7098)Campus community members and guests may request a security escort <strong>to</strong> or from any location on campusat any time by calling 630-7098. A <strong>University</strong> Police or Security Officer will be dispatched <strong>to</strong> assist. Inaddition, specially screened and trained students also provide escorts Monday through Thursday from6:00 pm – 11:00 pm during <strong>the</strong> Fall and Spring semesters.Crime S<strong>to</strong>ppers (630-7287)Crime S<strong>to</strong>ppers is an anonymous tip line for reporting information about known or suspected criminalactivity in and around <strong>the</strong> community.Callers should listen carefully <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> recorded message for complete instructions.Silent Witness (www.methodist.edu/student _life/ps_silent.htm)Community members who have information or knowledge regarding criminal or prohibited activity mayanonymously report that information through <strong>the</strong> Silent Witness program. Submissions should be made<strong>to</strong> www.methodist.edu/student_life/ps_silent.htm.Mo<strong>to</strong>r Vehicle Assistance (630-7098)<strong>University</strong> Police Officers are authorized <strong>to</strong> provide limited assistance <strong>to</strong> stranded mo<strong>to</strong>rists on campus.Officers are equipped with emergency unlock kits <strong>to</strong> retrieve keys from locked vehicles. Our Officers canalso help jump-start dead vehicle batteries. The person requesting assistance must sign a written liabilitywaiver and <strong>the</strong>y must produce a valid <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> identification card and proof of responsibilityfor <strong>the</strong> vehicle before <strong>the</strong> Officer provides assistance. The Officers may also provide access <strong>to</strong> a phone<strong>to</strong> call for assistance.50
