North Carolina state law requires vehicle collisions resulting indamage in excess of $1000.00 or any personal injury or hit and run collisions <strong>to</strong> be reported <strong>to</strong> lawenforcement and <strong>the</strong> North Carolina Division of Mo<strong>to</strong>r Vehicles.Towing<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> <strong>to</strong>w, or have <strong>to</strong>wed, any vehicle from campus property at <strong>the</strong>owner’s expense for any reason and without additional prior notice. Call <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety(630-7098) for <strong>to</strong>wing company contact information.Wheel Locks<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> reserves <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> place a wheel lock immobilization device on any vehicleparked on campus.Parking Within Marked Space / Parallel Parking / Double-ParkingVehicles parked in a paved lot that offers marked parking spaces must park completely within a singlemarked parking space.Vehicles may not be backed in <strong>to</strong> a diagonal parking space (rear of <strong>the</strong> vehicle may not face <strong>the</strong> fron<strong>to</strong>f a diagonal parking space).Vehicles parked in marked parallel parking spaces shall face in <strong>the</strong> direction of travel authorized for <strong>the</strong>immediately adjacent travel lane.Double-parking is a violation and occurs when any portion of a parked vehicle extends past <strong>the</strong> insideedge of <strong>the</strong> painted border of any o<strong>the</strong>r immediately adjacent or contiguous parking space.Mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles and Mo<strong>to</strong>r ScootersProperly registered mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles (and mo<strong>to</strong>r scooters as defined by NC statutes) are authorized <strong>to</strong> occupya single parking space, as are o<strong>the</strong>r passenger vehicles. Mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles and mo<strong>to</strong>r scooters may not beoperated or parked on any sidewalk, trail, grass, or undeveloped portion of <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> property.Recreational Vehicles and WatercraftRecreational vehicles, campers, all terrain vehicles, watercraft, and trailers used <strong>to</strong> transport same maynot be operated or parked on <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> property without advance authorization from <strong>the</strong>Department of Public Safety and <strong>the</strong> issuance of a temporary parking permit or visi<strong>to</strong>r pass as applicable.Closed Parking Lots, Roadways, and O<strong>the</strong>r Facilities<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>, through <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety, reserves <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> close, reserve,reclassify or o<strong>the</strong>rwise regulate access <strong>to</strong> parking lots, parking spaces, driveways, roadways, roadshoulders, and sidewalks on <strong>the</strong> campus (in accordance with all applicable laws) at any time. Vehicles(o<strong>the</strong>r than authorized service and emergency vehicles) shall not be parked, driven, or moved in anymanner on any <strong>University</strong> property that has been closed by <strong>the</strong> Department of Public Safety.Traffic Control EquipmentNo deployed traffic control equipment including, but not limited <strong>to</strong>, barrels, barricades, caution tape,flares, lights, signs or traffic cones may be moved without specific authorization by a member of <strong>the</strong>Department of Public Safety.Enforcement ActionsCampus Citations, State Citations, Judicial ReferralsVehicle operation and registration laws, as well as parking regulations, are strictly enforced on campus.Violations in excess of ten (10) campus citations in one academic year may result in suspension orrevocation of campus parking privileges and permits. Parking Permit fees are non-refundable.<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> Security Officers enforce campus regulations and policies including parkingregulations. MU Security Officers issue Campus Citations for such violations.<strong>University</strong> Police Officers enforce state and federal laws and may issue Campus Judicial Referrals and/orNorth Carolina state citations at <strong>the</strong>ir discretion. Judicial Referrals are forwarded <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Office of <strong>Student</strong>Development and Services for review and potential adjudication by <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Judicial System.Campus Citations and Judicial Referrals may also be issued for violations of campus policies o<strong>the</strong>r thanVehicle Operation and Parking Regulations.

Appeals aresubmitted <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Community Court through <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Development Office in <strong>the</strong> Berns <strong>Student</strong>Center. Appeal Forms may be obtained at <strong>the</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Development Office during regular businesshours. Look out for postings indicating time, date and place.Monarch MadnessMonarch Madness is a series of alternate student activities usually taking place on Wednesday nights from 8p.m. until 12 a.m. O<strong>the</strong>r activities take place on <strong>the</strong> weekends, time, place, and event TBA. A variety of eventsare held on campus, such as talent shows, movie and a meal, game shows, cookouts, comedy night, a Hawaiianluau, casino night, and special performers. <strong>Student</strong>s participating in Monarch Madness also enjoy events offcampus, such as Hockey Games with local team <strong>the</strong> Fire Antz, “Destination Unknown,” and “Bowling for Dollars.”57
