Our Greekletters represent Life, Learning, and Friendship. There are over 12,500 chapters worldwide with a combinedmembership of approximately 200,000. Meetings are held twice monthly and social events are held throughout<strong>the</strong> month. Our goal is <strong>to</strong> help <strong>the</strong> community through service each month. We participate in activities suchas <strong>the</strong> Cumberland County Agricultural Fair, <strong>the</strong> Warrior Angels Run for Breast Cancer, Special Olympics,Founders’ Day, S<strong>to</strong>p Hunger Now, Operation Christmas Child and <strong>the</strong> Cape Fear Valley Children’s Hospital.Lambda Chi AlphaLambda Chi Alpha was founded in 1909. Lambda Chi Alpha is an International Fraternity that centers itself aroundseven core values. These values are: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Service and Stewardship, Honor, Integrity, andPersonal Courage. Lambda Chi Alpha was <strong>the</strong> first Fraternity <strong>to</strong> completely ban hazing in 1972. Also, <strong>the</strong>re areno “pledges” in Lambda Chi Alpha. Once an individual joins, <strong>the</strong>y become an Associate Member who are able<strong>to</strong> vote, hold office, etc. The only thing that separates an Associate Member from a full member is <strong>the</strong> Ritual.Pi Kappa AlphaPi Kappa Alpha’s members strive <strong>to</strong> be Scholars, Leaders, Athletes, and Gentlemen and <strong>the</strong>y seek excellence ineverything <strong>the</strong>y do. Pi Kappa Alpha’s men are also called PIKES. The Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity was founded at<strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> of Virginia on March 1, 1868. PIKES is currently going through <strong>the</strong> process of becoming an officialcolony on campus. They started up in <strong>the</strong> Spring of <strong>2012</strong>. Their recruitment process is fully recommendations only.Kappa Alpha PsiKappa Alpha Psi was founded on <strong>the</strong> campus of Indiana <strong>University</strong> on January 5, 1911. The Fraternity’sfundamental purpose is achievement. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. has adopted core objectives for itsmembers and <strong>the</strong> organization as a whole. Membership is a solemn commitment. Maturity <strong>to</strong> us meansacceptanceof reality, <strong>the</strong> ability <strong>to</strong> sacrifice and set goals, consideration of o<strong>the</strong>rs, incisive judgement,emotional balance, development of social skills, intellectual competence, and moral rectitude. Dedicationmeans putting those characteristics of maturity in<strong>to</strong> a lifelong program of action <strong>to</strong> advance <strong>the</strong> goalsand purposes of Kappa Alpha Psi. Kappas were founded on campus in Spring <strong>2012</strong>.MU STUDY ABROADThe Study Abroad Program enhances MU internationalization efforts by offering opportunities for studyabroad <strong>to</strong> all MU students. Study Abroad experiences bring countless rewards <strong>to</strong> those who spend timeoverseas. It is an important component of a liberal arts education that strives <strong>to</strong> develop in its graduatesa thorough understanding of a richly diverse world.MU offers direct exchange programs with universities in France, Ireland, and Mexico. As a member of <strong>the</strong>Consortium for North American Higher Education Collaboration (CONAHEC), MU offers its students <strong>the</strong>possibility <strong>to</strong> participate in international exchanges and internship opportunities at over 40 undergraduateand graduate institutions. Our affiliation with Global Links (Australearn, Eurolearn, Asialearn) providesa wide range of education abroad programs. <strong>Student</strong>s benefit from waived application fees, discountsand special scholarships funds. MU faculty-led programs allow our students <strong>to</strong> explore o<strong>the</strong>r cultureswithin a cus<strong>to</strong>mized academic program.The Study Abroad Office has information on many <strong>to</strong>ur and study abroad program providers. The program involves informal use of facilitiesand a comprehensive vigorous sports competition among <strong>the</strong> men and women of <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong>. Intramuralactivities include but are not limited <strong>to</strong>: <strong>to</strong>uch football, basketball, softball, volleyball, table tennis, pool,camping, canoeing, and hiking. Activities are open <strong>to</strong> males and females.61
