What is MuNet?A: MuNet is <strong>the</strong> <strong>University</strong> Internet access and E-mail system, carried by <strong>the</strong> fiber optic backbonethat connects all permanent buildings on campus.Q 2: I live in one of <strong>the</strong> residence halls. Do I need <strong>to</strong> have my own computer at <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong>?A: A personal computer is important <strong>to</strong> any student, but <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> students are notrequired <strong>to</strong> purchase one, unless you are attending one of <strong>the</strong> Business or PGM Programs thatrequire student(s) <strong>to</strong> have a lap<strong>to</strong>p computer. There are computers in several labora<strong>to</strong>ries oncampus are equipped with Microsoft Windows XP, Internet access, word processing capabilities,and are accessible for over eighty hours per week. Never<strong>the</strong>less, many students own <strong>the</strong>ir owncomputers because it is more convenient <strong>to</strong> have one equipped as desired, available whenneeded, and loaded with personal software and data. <strong>Student</strong>s in all permanent residence hallsare able <strong>to</strong> connect directly <strong>to</strong> MuNet, using sockets in <strong>the</strong>ir rooms. This means that you havedirect, 24-hour Internet access (without dialing or using a telephone line).86
