Cell PhonesThe use of cell phones in <strong>the</strong> library is not allowed. We understand that patrons may have emergenciesor quick needs for using <strong>the</strong>ir phones. If a patron is using <strong>the</strong>ir cell phone for more than a minute, <strong>the</strong>ywill be asked <strong>to</strong> ei<strong>the</strong>r take <strong>the</strong> call outside or in one of <strong>the</strong> stairwells.VOIPVOIP refers <strong>to</strong> software, such as Skype or Google Talk, that allows <strong>the</strong> user <strong>to</strong> make telephone calls over<strong>the</strong> internet. Use of this kind of software is not permitted in <strong>the</strong> Library, even for short calls.NoisePatrons have <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> ask each o<strong>the</strong>r <strong>to</strong> be quiet if <strong>the</strong>y are annoyed by <strong>the</strong> noise of chatting or studygroups. At times, circulation staff may need <strong>to</strong> step in and ask patrons <strong>to</strong> be quieter. In <strong>the</strong> case of studygroups, staff should also suggest using a study room upstairs.Patrons watching videos/listening <strong>to</strong> music on computers (ours or <strong>the</strong>irs) will be asked <strong>to</strong> use headphones.Headphones are available for checkout at <strong>the</strong> circulation desk.ChildrenChildren in <strong>the</strong> library must have a parent or guardian supervising <strong>the</strong>m at all times.ComputersLibrary computers are intended primarily for academic use of MU students. These work stations may bemoni<strong>to</strong>red <strong>to</strong> ensure that <strong>the</strong>y are being used for <strong>the</strong> purposes for which <strong>the</strong>y are intended.Service AnimalsService animals are permitted in <strong>the</strong> library for patrons who require <strong>the</strong>m.Disruptive BehaviorSwearing is strictly prohibited in <strong>the</strong> library. Patrons using vulgar, profane, or obscene language will beasked <strong>to</strong> s<strong>to</strong>p or leave <strong>the</strong> library.Patrons verbally or physically fighting will not be <strong>to</strong>lerated. Any patron disrupting <strong>the</strong> library in analtercation may be removed by Security.Verbal or physical abuse <strong>to</strong>wards library staff members will not be <strong>to</strong>lerated. The patron may be removedfrom <strong>the</strong> building by Security if necessary. Abuse of staff members by students will be documented andreported <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> Dean’s Office.30LURA S. The Center offers two academic minors and an associate’s degree. Foundedon <strong>the</strong> belief that our nation urgently needs ethical and highly talented leaders, <strong>the</strong> Tally Center offers coursesand campus activities that develop personal character and practical skills. <strong>Student</strong>s in LSS 300, Principles ofLeadership, receive certified training in Stephen Covey’s acclaimed The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.This valuable credential is highly respected throughout corporate America. This course is also available online.Beginning in <strong>2012</strong>-<strong>2013</strong>, <strong>the</strong> Tally Center will offer a new Leadership Fellows Program for incomingfreshman and o<strong>the</strong>rs. This will provide select students extraordinary opportunities <strong>to</strong> develop <strong>the</strong>ir personalleadership potential. Freshmen can apply <strong>to</strong> become Leadership Fellow Candidates as <strong>the</strong>y begin <strong>the</strong>irleadership training. As candidates, sophomores continue <strong>the</strong>ir leadership development and <strong>the</strong>n apply<strong>to</strong> become Leadership Fellows. Juniors and seniors, as Leadership Fellows, participate in off-campusconferences and internships, serve as campus leaders, and continue <strong>the</strong>ir training. Those completing thisrigorous program earn a handsome certificate and an honor cord <strong>to</strong> be worn at commencement. Employerswill recognize MU Leadership Fellows as among <strong>the</strong> very best university graduates in <strong>the</strong> nation.The Tally Center grants Leadership Scholarships <strong>to</strong> selected, outstanding students. Also, oneexceptional leadership student is recognized each year with <strong>the</strong> Lura S. Tally Award, which includes $500.The Tally Center also serves as a community resource. Working with <strong>the</strong> Chamber of Commerce ando<strong>the</strong>rs, <strong>the</strong> Center provides workshops <strong>to</strong> enhance <strong>the</strong> leadership skills of business people, volunteers,and o<strong>the</strong>rs.
