Another good source <strong>of</strong> information is Buhagiar [20, 21] who addressed differentaspects <strong>of</strong> improving the thermal envelope <strong>of</strong> Maltese buildings. However, aparticularly relevant piece <strong>of</strong> work was that done by Buhagiar and Yousif in [22]who provide a post occupancy evaluation <strong>of</strong> the energy-efficiency measures in aprototype low-carbon building in Malta, shown in Figure 2.4, with integratedbuilding fabric improvement measures and renewable energy systems.Fig. 2.4 - <strong>Energy</strong> efficient housing project discussed by Buhagiar and Yousif in [22]The study examined the measures deployed (e.g. ro<strong>of</strong> installed photovoltaic and solarwater heating systems, insulated double walls, external louvers for shading, insulatedro<strong>of</strong> etc.) and gave preliminary results in terms <strong>of</strong> quantified energy savings <strong>of</strong> theindividual measures for the whole building.Based on the recommendations listed in these sources, Table 2.4 lists the mainfeatures <strong>of</strong> the building fabric used to model the high efficiency fabric used in thesimulations.39
