ACHIEVEMENTS1. Sector Resources and Policy<strong>The</strong> dense humid forests <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cameroon</strong> cover a surface area <strong>of</strong> about19.598 million hectares (that is 41.2 percent <strong>of</strong> the national territory)in the southern part <strong>of</strong> the country, which also has forested savannahsand forest galleries covering about 4.3 million hectares. According to theoverall assessment <strong>of</strong> surface area carried out within the framework <strong>of</strong>the National Environment Management Plan <strong>of</strong> 1996, dense forests andwooded savannahs cover a surface area <strong>of</strong> 21.070 million hectares, some45 percent <strong>of</strong> the national territory. However, these forests have undergoneand continue to undergo significant changes as a result <strong>of</strong> logging,exploitation <strong>of</strong> natural resources, and transformation into farmlands andfor other uses.In order to ensure the growth and sustainable development <strong>of</strong> the forestsector, the Government Delivered <strong>of</strong> by <strong>Cameroon</strong> <strong>The</strong> World Bank has e-library over to: the last ten years initiatedfar-reaching reforms touching IP : 192.86.100.34 on the institutional and regulatory<strong>The</strong> World Bankframeworks <strong>of</strong> the sector.
