M.Babelon places <strong>the</strong>m beside <strong>the</strong> ra<strong>the</strong>r earlier Ciliciancoins 10 with a similar figure on <strong>the</strong> obverse, without, however,vouching for <strong>the</strong> attribution. He dates <strong>the</strong>m about485-465. <strong>The</strong> British Museum possesses three coins <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> series, <strong>the</strong> two larger weighing 2'83 grm. (43*7 grs.)<strong>and</strong> 1*26 grm. (19'5 grs.), <strong>the</strong> third being <strong>the</strong> little piecejust described. <strong>The</strong> first was <strong>the</strong> Montagu specimen 11 ;<strong>the</strong> second <strong>and</strong> third, however, were both acquired fromdealers with lots <strong>of</strong> Lycian coins.Before <strong>the</strong> acquisition<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se, I had already, on grounds <strong>of</strong> style <strong>and</strong> fabric,moved <strong>the</strong> Montagu specimen to <strong>the</strong> Lycian series.16.
