He left on January 19, 1421, for Engl<strong>and</strong>,where he arrived on February 1, after an absence <strong>of</strong> three<strong>and</strong> a half years.His stay in Engl<strong>and</strong> was brief. He sailed again forFrance on June 10, 1421, <strong>and</strong> resumed his operationsagainst <strong>the</strong> towns in Nor<strong>the</strong>rn France which still held outagainst him. <strong>The</strong> winter <strong>and</strong> spring were chiefly occupiedby <strong>the</strong> siege <strong>of</strong> Meaux, at which <strong>the</strong> Englishsuffered heavily through sickness. It was probablyduring this time that Henry contracted <strong>the</strong> illness <strong>of</strong>which he died. In <strong>the</strong> middle <strong>of</strong> August, 1422, he wastaken to his castle in <strong>the</strong> Bois de Yincennes, outside Paris,where he died on <strong>the</strong> morning <strong>of</strong> September 1.<strong>The</strong> Anglo-Gallic coinage <strong>of</strong> Henry V <strong>and</strong> Henry YIhas been exhaustively dealt with by M. de Saulcy in hisHistoire Nitmismatique de Henri V et Henri VI, Eoisd'Angleterre, pendant qu'ils out regne en France, publishedin Paris in 1878. M. de Saulcy has collected <strong>and</strong>published in this work all <strong>the</strong> known ordinances <strong>and</strong>records relating to <strong>the</strong> coinage <strong>of</strong> this period.I haveextracted from his book sufficient information to enableme to classify <strong>the</strong> coinages <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>se reigns, but I wouldstrongly recommend any one who wishes to study <strong>the</strong>coins <strong>of</strong> this period to refer to M. de Saulcy's work itself,where <strong>the</strong>y will find <strong>the</strong> actual wording <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ordinances<strong>and</strong> records fully set out.<strong>The</strong> first <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ordinances 1 is dated May 8, 1419, fourmonths after <strong>the</strong> fall <strong>of</strong> Eouen, from Yernon-sur-Seine,where Henry had gonefor Easter to await a conferencewith Queen Isabella <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> Duke <strong>of</strong> Burgundy.It is1Patentes Normannie, 50.
