V.PALMEK'S GREEN HOARD.ON <strong>the</strong> 1st <strong>of</strong> May last year in <strong>the</strong> course <strong>of</strong> digging out<strong>the</strong> foundations for a house in Palmer's Green, N., aworkman came across a number <strong>of</strong> silver coins (pennies)which appear to have been buried toge<strong>the</strong>r, but whichhad not been placed in any kind <strong>of</strong> vessel. It is, however, quite probable that <strong>the</strong> coins had been wrapped insome cloth or linen which had entirely perished.Hadthis not been so, <strong>the</strong> coins would in course <strong>of</strong> time havegot separated <strong>and</strong> to some extent scattered. As it was<strong>the</strong>y were all pretty close toge<strong>the</strong>r.<strong>The</strong> hoard was claimed by <strong>the</strong> Crown as treasure-trove,<strong>and</strong>, as customary, an inquest was held <strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> claim <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> Treasury was allowed. <strong>The</strong> coins were as usual sentby <strong>the</strong> Treasury to <strong>the</strong> Museum, where I made a carefulexamination <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m. <strong>The</strong> result <strong>of</strong> this examinationwas as follows : <strong>The</strong> hoard consisted in all <strong>of</strong> 217 coins(one only a portion). Of <strong>the</strong>se 208 were pennies <strong>of</strong>Henry III <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> long-cross type, struck at various mintsin Engl<strong>and</strong> <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> various issues. Five pennies wereIrish<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> same reign <strong>and</strong> were struck in Dublin, <strong>and</strong>4 o<strong>the</strong>rs were <strong>of</strong> Alex<strong>and</strong>er III <strong>of</strong> Scotl<strong>and</strong>.I give a list <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> coins with descriptions
