[PL VIII. 4.]British Museum.This coin, which is in mint state, was purchased at<strong>the</strong> Kichardson sale (lot 87). Its full weightis 64'4grains, <strong>and</strong> it was current for 25 sols tournois. It wasstruck in pursuance <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ordinance <strong>of</strong> November 20,1421.<strong>The</strong>re is ano<strong>the</strong>r specimen in <strong>the</strong> Biblio<strong>the</strong>queRationale, <strong>and</strong> a third specimen was in <strong>the</strong> MurdochCollection (PI. xi. 385).Only three specimens were known to de Saulcy, namely,<strong>the</strong> specimen in <strong>the</strong> French National Collection, one in<strong>the</strong> collection <strong>of</strong> M. Fabre, <strong>and</strong> one which he states wasin <strong>the</strong> British Museum. He is, however, mistaken insupposing that one was in <strong>the</strong> British Museum, as nospecimen was <strong>the</strong>re before Mr. Bichardson's coin waspurchased.From a manuscript in <strong>the</strong> French National Archives, 1414 Arch.
