Thiscoin constitutes a new variety.67Cohen (loc. cit.) catalogues an aureus <strong>of</strong> this type in <strong>the</strong> Cabinet deFrance, having <strong>the</strong> laureate bust <strong>of</strong> Antoninus to right on <strong>the</strong> obverse.Specimens with a laureate head to right on <strong>the</strong> obverse are in <strong>the</strong>British Museum although unrecorded by Cohen. <strong>The</strong> Corbridgeexample supplies a new variety <strong>of</strong> obverse to this type.68<strong>The</strong>se two specimens are from <strong>the</strong> same obverse die, but fromdifferent reverse dies. On <strong>the</strong> reverse <strong>of</strong> No. 144 (PI.XIX. 1) <strong>the</strong>caduceus iswinged ;on <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r specimen it is without wings.
