CHAPTER 3
Teradata TPump Commands
This chapter describes the Teradata TPump commands and Teradata SQL statements that
execute from the Teradata TPump utility.
Experienced Teradata TPump users can also refer to the simplified command descriptions in
the Teradata TPump chapter of Teradata Tools and Utilities Command Summary. This book
provides the syntax diagrams and a brief description of the syntax variables for each Teradata
client utility.
Syntax Notes
This section provides information which should be known before using Teradata TPump
commands and Teradata SQL statements.
Each Teradata TPump command:
Object Name Restrictions
• Must begin on a new line.
• Must start with a period (.) character. In this document, Teradata TPump command
periods are shown only in syntax diagrams and examples, but not in the narrative text.
• Must end with a semicolon (;) character.
• May continue for as many lines as necessary, as long as it satisfies the beginning and
ending requirements.
Statements are standard Teradata SQL statements and are not preceded by periods.
The following Syntax rules apply to object names:
• A semicolon cannot be used in an object name because a semicolon is used to designate
the end of a Teradata TPump command.
• 30 bytes cannot be used as the quoted object name length.
• An ampersand (&) cannot be used in an object name.
See Appendix A: “How to Read Syntax Diagrams” for more information about how to read
the syntax diagrams used in this book.
Geospatial Data Restrictions
The following rules apply to Geospatial data:
