Care Register for Health Care which collects discharge data on all patients<br />

discharged from inpatient care as well as outpatients treated in specialized<br />

care. Patients were verified as lung cancer patients by linking data with<br />

diagnoses from the Finnish Cancer Registry. Mortality data were linked from<br />

Statistics Finland. Results: During the study period 3912 patients underwent<br />

lung surgery for cancer. Mean age was 66 years (SD 9.6), 62% were males. The<br />

number of operations increased over the years (p=0.02). Extent of surgery was<br />

pneumonectomy in 10%, lobectomy in 79.8% and sublobar resection in 10.2%.<br />
