The ADS-B Receiving Subsystem receives, decodes <strong>and</strong> processes the “ME” Field of the ADS-R Surface<br />

Position Messages, <strong>and</strong> updates <strong>and</strong> maintains ADS-R Reports with the decoded data in accordance with<br />

§C.3.5. The <strong>for</strong>mat is identical to the ADS-B Surface Position Message specified in section §C.2.3.3 <strong>and</strong><br />

Figure C-2, except that “ME” bit 21 is redefined to be the ICAO/<strong>Mode</strong> A Flag (IMF).<br />

C.4.4.3 ADS-R AIRCRAFT IDENTIFICATION AND CATEGORY MESSAGE<br />

The ADS-B Receiving Subsystem receives, decodes <strong>and</strong> processes the “ME” Field of the ADS-R Aircraft<br />

Identification <strong>and</strong> Category Messages, <strong>and</strong> updates <strong>and</strong> maintains ADS-R Reports with the decoded data in<br />

accordance with §C.3.5. The <strong>for</strong>mat is as specified in section §C.2.3.4 <strong>and</strong> Figure C-4.<br />

Note.— Any Rebroadcast Aircraft Identification <strong>and</strong> Category Message does not contain the IMF bit<br />

since aircraft using an anonymous 24-bit address will not provide identity <strong>and</strong> category in<strong>for</strong>mation.<br />

Messages, except that “ME” bit 9 is redefined to be the ICAO/<strong>Mode</strong> A Flag (IMF)..<br />

Note.— Bit 10 of the “ME” field in ADS-B Version One (1) is the IFR Capability Flag which is not<br />

conveyed in ADS-B Version Two (2) ADS-B Transmitting Subsystems.<br />

in section §C.2.3.7.3 <strong>and</strong> Figure C-8a, except that “ME” bit 56 is redefined to be the ICAO/<strong>Mode</strong> A Flag<br />

accordance with §C.3.5. The <strong>for</strong>mat is identical to the ADS-B Aircraft Operational Status Message specified<br />

in section §C.2.3.10 <strong>and</strong> Figure C-10, except that “ME” bit 56 is redefined to be the ICAO/<strong>Mode</strong> A Flag (IMF)<br />

<strong>and</strong> bit 20 of the Capability Class Code conveys the NIC Supplement-B.<br />
